4 Americans killed by Somali pirates

No, that's not why the USA has a bad rep. It's because the USA presents a weak front now. No one fears the USA anymore. The people of other countries laugh at the USA, and attack with impunity.

Yes it is the reason. *shrugs* Don't kid yourself into thinking otherwise.

Very few, compared with today.

It only seems that way due to the media exposure. People didn't have CNN, the internet and more back in the ol' so-called good days.

I was comparing the USA of the past with the present. Why include other countries in that comparison?

Um, Air India Flight 182, 270 Canadians died on it. Madrid train bombing, 141 Spaniards died there. So I don't think you have much of an argument right there.

They have ulterior motives, as always. However, I don't care what they are. Violence begets violence and that is something I cannot condone.

Because I'm an American. I can criticize the policies and practices of my country's leaders. Do you want me to criticize the leaders of your country? Do you feel left out if I don't?

Feel free to.

Here's the thing, you have a tendency to assume that it's all about the Americans, nobody else matters. In the end, we are all human beings, not Canadians, Americans, etc. Our nationalities are meaningless to the Almighty God.

I don't think that we should eliminate Somali pirates because of three reasons:

(1) Dumped tons of sewage from commercial and cruises that affect their drinking water - I don't know how they filter out of it. They got pissed off and decided to do something because the boaters don't give a damn about them. The fishes (food chain) are in that area that became infected from several sewages - from these vessels. (This is how we found out from the original reports on the news.)

(2) Too many uncivilization people in these areas that foreigners should not be near their territory. They struggle to make a living for food and shelter.

(3) FoxNews does not always tell the whole truth.

Unfortunately, multi-millionaires made a decision to go into unsafe zones that they should not go there in the first place. They should know that these people are after wealthy boat owners for money.

There are a lot of horrible stories in Africa that U.S. Military would have helped them by eliminating them. It is probably far too late now and things got so complicated with the political stuff.

and you've never been there...

I am not exact sure if I heard that a BMW vessel sank or was took over by Somali last year. I mean hundreds of BWM cars in that vessel. Is that correct?

Yes it is the reason. *shrugs* Don't kid yourself into thinking otherwise.
If the USA would just be sweet and nice to other countries, all would be well.

Don't kid yourself.

It only seems that way due to the media exposure. People didn't have CNN, the internet and more back in the ol' so-called good days.
That's your opinion.

Um, Air India Flight 182, 270 Canadians died on it. Madrid train bombing, 141 Spaniards died there. So I don't think you have much of an argument right there.
What argument? I never denied anything. It just wasn't the point of my post. I was comparing to different times, not different countries. Feel free to post anything you want. I can't cover everything, nor should I.

Honestly, do you expect me to cover every world event in every post?

They have ulterior motives, as always. However, I don't care what they are. Violence begets violence and that is something I cannot condone.
If you don't condone it, how do you propose to stop it?

Feel free to.
Then I can be criticized for picking on other people's countries? No, thanks. I'll leave that to others.

Here's the thing, you have a tendency to assume that it's all about the Americans, nobody else matters.
That's a bunch of baloney. I never, ever said that. If you believe that, then you've overlooked many of my posts.

In the end, we are all human beings, not Canadians, Americans, etc. Our nationalities are meaningless to the Almighty God.
That's true but it's no excuse for just sitting back and ignoring what's happening in the world. God is not opposed to concerned citizens trying to make the best of their countries. "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's."

I agree with this.

In addition, piracy was an important factor in making the west what it's today, wealthy. The west are hypocritical when they critize somalis for unforgiven crime and lower moral standards.

Then I can be criticized for picking on other people's countries? No, thanks. I'll leave that to others.
Then you shouldn't criticize somalia for piracy or pick on other countries for their hostility towards US. It's their business, not yours?

Eh? That's exactly what the pirates are doing.

Since they're attacking Americans, it IS my business.

even though they KNOWINGLY venture out to a KNOWN pirate area?
Blame the victims?

Freedom of the seas is a long-standing principle that nations have defended throughout history. .

I wouldn't say the States needs to flex their military muscles-- they're already doing that. However, isn't it a coincidence ever since the United States became a unipolar superpower, terrorism and civil violences ran amok?

Just saying there's a void in the balance of powers.

The US has been displaying weakness and indecision. It's time to start flexing and using the muscles.

Really? Then how do you explain Afghanistan and Iraq?

Macedonia, Yemen, Philippines, Colombia, Liberia, Haiti, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria, then Yemen again.

Not counting pre-9/11. The irony is there are more American interventions within a decade since the collapse of the Soviet Union than during any other decade during the Cold War.

It's dragging on because we conducted the war in a weak and confused way (overall). There were some periods and some locations that were conducted with strength, and the troops on the ground are doing what they can within all the constraints that are put on them.
