    Aided free-field test today

What a day! I've been so busy recently with work, and had a hell of a long day. I was up late trying to finish fixing a laptop for work, then had to get up early to shower and go to audiology before work. My dad dropped me off as the appointment was 8.45 and the first bus leaves at 9.16, but it...

What is a free field hearing test?

I asked for an aided audiogram, and the audiologist said this isn't done the normal way with headphones but is something called a free field test. I couldn't find anything on google about it. Has anybody had one?

    My morning in Audiology

Today I had the morning off work to go to audiology and collect a new mould as my old one had a chip which irritated my ear. I don't know if this is of interest to anyone, but I'd like to share my experience. I wrote down things I wanted to ask about while I was waiting. The woman got the...

    Refused audiogram printout- UK NHS

Hi everyone, I haven't been on here for a while, but I'm back :-) I went today to my drop-in clinic at the hospital to ask for a new mould and tubing as my mould has a chip that irritates my ear, and I accidentally cut my tubing too short. While I was there I asked for a printout...

    How long do moulds last?

I can't find the answer to this question anywhere. This is the first time I've had in the ear traditional moulds (ever, and I'm 24!), and I don't know how long they last. I know the tubing will get hard and crack when it needs replacing, but what happens to the moulds?

Oticon Spirit Zest making random clicking noise..

Hi everyone, I've not been on AD for a while as I had problems with my password, but I've got it all sorted out now :-) I recently had my aids reprogrammed as I couldn't hear a thing with them, and I hear very well with them now. Now I just have a volume switch and no other 'modes'...

Audiology appt today- Oticon Spirit in a month!

I thought I'd write about my audiology appt which happened this morning and see what people think (I just got back from shopping in town after it and have a great new wardrobe!). I felt that the audiologist was a little short with me but I don't know if that was just my interpretation. Sorry in...

My new hair and decorated hearing aids!

Tonight I decided to put more pretty colours in my hair. I already had a thick bright pink stripe, so I added another one. Then I tried to make rainbow colours in my fringe- blue, turquoise, green, purple and pink, but it all smushed into a chlorine-like blue-green and purple thing. The camera...

UK NHS users- did you get to choose your HA, or the colour?

Hi, I have a question for people in the UK who have got a hearing aid through the NHS. Were you offered any choice in models, or colours, of the aid or molds? I am not working at the moment, and I should think going private would cost hundreds of pounds, which I don't have. I am going for...

    Can anyone interpret my audiogram?...

...and tell me what it means- do I really have 'near normal' hearing in the 'speech frequencies' as I've been told- if so, why do I have so much trouble without my hearing aids, asking people to repeat things all the time? Why do I still have trouble WITH them? Do I have an unusual sort of loss...

New with question- what differentiates D/deaf and HoH?

Hi everyone, I have been a member for a few years but I haven't posted much until now. Apologies if I make any faux pas, I haven't been on this site very much. I'm considered hard of hearing with mild loss in speech frequencies, and moderate/severe loss in the high frequencies. I can 'get by'...

    Hi I'm new

Hi everyone! I'm Melissa, and I just got digital HAs yesterday! I have mild/moderate loss in the normal (low and speech) frequencies and severe loss in the high frequencies. It's a sensorineural loss I had from birth. Just a bit of background info! I used to wear analogues when I was younger...
