We don't know yet why he hit them. He could be mentally unstable. If it turns out he hit them because the mom and daughter is deaf, that is definitely a hate crime. Until we know more, we shouldn't jump to conclusion.

I do know of one deaf family who had at least one hearing child in a large family of deaf kids. This hearing child was forced to attend deaf schools and even university. I say force because apparently the child had no choice and how they managed to get away with this is beyond me. This person...

All my kids are totally immersed in the hearing world, most CODAs are.

I would go for it right away, but I would consider the method and cost before actually going for it. I'm HOH and since I can hear pretty well with aids, I know what it is like to be able to hear if not perfect and I'd like to be able to hear without the use of aids.

I voted yes. One other thing, someone up there...maybe in page 1 or 2 said something about someone getting a cure and not giving a damn about the deaf community. I think that it depends on how connected a person is to the deaf community. Seeing as it is that the majority would support a cure...

hah! Never thought of myself as a Talking Deafie nor an Oral deaf but...I suppose I am. I speak real well, so I've been told. But, I don't think I'm comfortable with that term..it's too ummm geeky, the "talking deafie" label. Not too fond of labels here.

SSI? Not SSDI? Usually SSI is very limiting. SSDI is based on past work credit. So, you're only interested in SSI only?
