I don't really care if they're genuinely interested in learning or whatever, I personally just don't want to talk about it. I'll acknowledge that the hearing loss exists of course, but I'm not getting into how it happened and so on. I prefer to leave all of that in the past.

For the most part, I think you're right. A lot of that stigmatization and whatnot is probably self-imposed, sort of like a "Double Conciousness" type of thing. Anyway, I'm still growing my hair, so I figured I'd attach a recent pic of my hair to give people an idea of what it looks like now...

A lot of people were vain to begin with, myself included. If he went through elementary school without hearing aids despite having mild-moderate hearing loss, I would suspect this to be the case here as well. I often wonder (sometimes have bad dreams even) about my future children saying things...

they don't so much "creep me out" as they do serve as a constant reminder of what I did to myself, and how it was totally avoidable, which I don't think will ever go away...just like the scars on my trachea and abs, the fact that I am stuck with them forever is the hardest of all to come to...
