Hello Guys!

I just wanted to create a threat about recycling anything.

I am trying to clean up the basement, but I feel bad throwing away certain things like magazines, greeting cards, store clothing hangers (plastic).

I would like to make a successfull neighborhood garage sale, but it wasn't easy to sell the last 2 times.

Tell us some of your awesome recycling tips! Let's be Grrreen!

I just remembered that the church has got a big trash dumpster that is only for collecting magazines, newspapers, etc. to get extra income for the church. That's what I'll do with the magazines.

I recently moved not long ago, and I did the recycling the best I can, there is a Waste Management area in another town that have recycling almost everything. I dropped off scrap metal, plastic and papers. I discarded some plastic hangers there, and some old metal chairs and mattress stand to scrap metal. They also have cash back when you recycle plastic bottles and aluminum cans as well.

Unfortunately, there is some a lot of stuff that I had to take to transfer station to landfill which those are not recyclable and those that goodwill will not take. So I did all my best to recycle as much as possible. I got rid of magazines that I no longer need to use - Sports Illustrated when I was younger.

I am with Calvin. After I moved to another town and found out that I have to pay for the landfill *5 dollar every 2 yrs* But that landfill only for household trash and recycle and for the other would have to pay for it. So I ended up go to my old town landfill which is everything that I can take it to the dump and get rid of what I dont want and it is free. :D They dont know that I moved but know my truck too well.

I am collecting all my plastic bottles to help a lady, she's recycling and with the money she gets will go towards her mission trip :)

Calvin "I got rid of magazines that I no longer need to use - Sports Illustrated when I was younger. "Calvin you could've send those to NS :laugh2: JK

all of recycles what i did is: give to school for their fundraising.

haha

I do collect aluminum cans and bottles and get cash to use for my fuel or foods so I can have less use of ATM ;)

Yeah I had to get rid of old carpets and some of the household trash and few broken/unwanted bulky items and I had to make about 3 or 4 trips with Ford Ranger pickup I borrowed from neighbor, so altogether, the landfill costs me about $75 in total but at least my roommate and I got rid of it and get it over with. There's only one transfer station closest to here about 15 mins from here, and the other one about 30 mins drive, so I pick the one closest to save time and fuel.

Lucky you got rid of stuff at landfill for free, I guess that it's rural area, but here the city, it costs more... oh well.

We recycled 2 computers at a center, and we didn't have to pay anything. Goodwill dispose of old computers, so it's not worth it taking there.

Yes, I took old monitors, and TV to E-waste center (Electronic Waste) and it's free. My roommate got rid of old fax machine to e-waste. No problem just drop off and leave :)

you can just ebay some stuff for low price. if you don't like doing garage sales, you can just simply donate it to several places such as church, donation center, etc.

My roommate had garage sale 2 weekends to get rid of baby clothes and toys for children, and got most of it sold and leftover for landlord's daughter to use. My roommate sold a couch and couple others thru Craigslist website. Like I posted earlier, we both did our best to reduce landfill but some of the stuffs had to go there since we have no choice but to take it there.

As a teacher I gotta give you a HUG for this suggestion! Yes, don't forget your local school. Teachers often are in need of old magazines (not Playboy, though, please lol), yarn, buttons, left over craft supplies, tablecloths, oetc. I go to flea markets and yard sales ALL THE TIME to look for junk that we can use for crafts and other things in my classroom. You may be surprised at what I use and have in my closet for teaching.

Put stuff, you never use to ebay is the best solution but it's also good when you use the stuff as recycling with craftwork for re-gift. I often do that to recycle old stuffs into antique look/craft work to bright as re-gift.

*hugs* here it is.

Hello, thanks for posting here. It was a bit helpful. I guess not much are really into the green stuff. I dunno. I have wanted to sell on ebay, but I find it somewhat overwhelming especially with figuring out how much it would cost to ship certain items. How do I figure out this?

You can use the United States Postal Service website... usps.gov

There's a link there that helps you calculate your postage. :)

Also, there are some post offices that have a computer with a scale to weigh your package. :)

One guy just came here few days ago to pick our old mattress for recycle. He gets some steel out of bed to use it for something else. Whew.
