It's A New Record!!!

My dad has told me that President Truman saved his butt and got him out of the Army while WWII was going on.

My father was poised to invade Japan in 1945. He not only credits Truman with saving him then, but Dad was still in the navy in the Korean Conflict. So was my older brother. They credit Harry S with saving them and many others by relieving MacArthur from command when he threatened North Korea and China with invasion and implied nuclear retaliation.

It was after relieving General MacArthur that President Truman suffered so much in the polls that he didn't seek another election.

I am just thoroughly surprised that he didn't break the record for the World's Worst a long long time ago... Kind of makes you wonder what America has been smoking for the last 8 years.

Pollution from gas emissions, methande, and drinking water laced with different kind of drugs.

No wonder we are HIGH! :giggle:

Right now, the national debt is around $9.3 trillion and it's not getting paid off anytime soon.

U.S. National Debt Clock
Yeah.

I did the math for the 2005 debt and figured that every legal resident of the United States could live without working for a whole year using the money that was spent on other things.

I have a biography on Harry, which I started reading a year ago January, when I bought it at his library. I just passed the section where it discusses MacArthur and how the two of them couldn't stand each other. Mac wanted to bomb the living crap out of the Japanese and Harry told him to stand down. Not sure what happened after that in the book, as I'm swamped with papers to write and finals to prepare for next week and next. I just happened to be on tonight to review any of my messages earlier.

Hey, by the way, here in the Moorhead, Minnesota area tonight we've got a blizzard with about four inches of heavy snow on the ground, with more coming, white out conditions.

Spring was wimpy this year, guess we went back to winter.

What about presidents who were in office before people took polls on approval/disapproval? Do they get a free pass?

I agree, PuyoPiyo. I'm thinking Pete indirectly quoted a '40s news headline, but even with quote marks, the term isn't welcome in AD.

Another bad name story: In the '80s, a Japanese computer company bought American Microsystems, Inc. in Pocatello, Idaho. I was a teaching assistant at ISU and taught classes on American idioms for AMI's Japanese engineers. They were horribly embarrassed by the intials of their company, because "Ami" is derogatory slang for "Americans."

Thank you for the editing :)

"Ami"? Isn't it funny that it was also a girl's name? ;)

I said nothing racist, PuyoPiyo. It's been written in history. Get over it.

Do you know what does "history" and "xxx" means? Do a research about it alittle more, then you will understand why it was called "history" and why does we Americans use the "xxx".

Chase,

I'm not sure if what I said was edited, not by me, but it is part of U.S. and World History and is in print. If you'd like, I can reference the link and you and everyone else can sue them for saying it. Racist remarks, even in history, are history. Sue the people that said it, as it's part of public record. I wrote a tame version of what MacArthur actually wanted to do and also what the president told him at that time. If we don't like something, does that change history, Chase? May I remind you that, as a newbie yourself here and with all due respect, you're also older than I am, you should know your U.S. and World history. What will we start editing because someone doesn't like something? Sure, I pop my chops regarding the confederate flag, so does many other people. It's part of history, so none of us can change it, can we? Much history is ugly, racist and very derogatory and we, as a society as a whole (now), are quick to censor every little thing. I'm not saying to allow those words, which I did not. I was paraphrasing and not quoting.

Now, if the word I used shortened the country's name into four letters without any vowels except the "a," it's not a derogatory comment, nor racist.

What is "xxx"? I have absolutly no idea what you're referring to. PM me.

I'm not sure, Reba, but if it was today and they all were running for office, a good many of them would never make it for various reasons.

Personal comments about other members strictly at an end, the good news is . . .

Facts of history must never be changed. Ever. By anyone. History can be taught, discussed, dissected, and argued without racist remarks or words. By analogy, relationships between men and women can be discussed without giving the other genital names.

However, in the case of racist epitaphs, it’s the law in schools accepting U.S. federal funds, and it’s the rule here at AllDeaf. Call it “politically correct” or whatever, in reality it’s “polite courtesy.” If examples of past hate words or phrases are needed, then they can be introduced as such and quoted, but must be never part of the commentary. It’s that direct and simple.

Back on the topic of political polls, it's wonderful that in this country we can freely lampoon and even hate elected officials from the president on down. But even there, we have limits. Threats, even implied threats, are dealt with harshly . . . and that's probably not a bad thing.

yeah if the right or wrong person hears you 'jokingly' say that your'e planning to murder an elected official your'e more than likely going to find your keister in a pot of boiling water.

Around my workplace you have to be careful of what you say and how you say it because it can get twisted and gets back to the head boss and your butt is disciplined accordingly. With the co-workers I have I keep my comments to myself about certain people becase they are the ones that like to retaliate and its never pretty for either party. We've had slapping fights on the line between two hispanic ladies over a man.

I dont thnk they will impeach Bush as this is his last year of being a president. If that happens then it will take forever due to court like it did when Clinton was impeached.

In jan new president will take over the office. so only few months left... so dont think so... hmm..

Mind you - it is bit unfair to compare Bush to other Presidents like Clinton because Bush is a war president. So is Truman. War ain't pretty. War's costly. War's focked up. Truman had one of the worst rating too! but we made it ok!

I heard this outrageously insane comment from somewhere - maybe article or tv. An expert said Congress and majority of Democrats were very hesitant to start impeach process against Bush and Cheney because they feared they would launch attack against Iran. That means Bush and Cheney will extend their length of administration to... who knows - 1 more year? 2 more? It coulda happen! :run:

You may say "bullshit that's never gona happen. It's unconstitutional." Well... that's what people said about Patriot Acts, Habeas Corpus, Gitmo Camp, Geneva Convention..... :ugh:

btw - I'm not Bush-supporter but just don't get blindly angry.

Yeah, we discussed Harry S in this thread. His motto was "The buck stops here" in an time when the buck of responsibility was quickly passed in Washington, D.C. Anyway, Harry's dismal presidential rating had much to do with sacking popular MacArthur before he nuked North Korea and places farther north.

World historians have pretty much vindicated Truman. After all the shouting dies down, the same could happen for George II.

Unless... the government passes a new law or establishes something that determines when to take action towards the president when the disapproval ratings reaches a certain point.

"Let it be known that from now on, if the disapproval rating reaches 70%... the president will be impeached!"

Who knows... :dunno:

Let's make it 68% so Bush can be impeached already!

Hahahaha, Bush did get embarrassed by our people that they didn't like him. :D
I don't like Bush a lot.
