How come Alaska and Hawaii dont have a professional sports team?

Do u think they should?

I think it's due to small population base. I'm sure Wyoming and a few other states don't have professional sports team either.

Because Alaskans are too busy wrestling with grizzly bears!

Shel90.. there is a minor professional team in Alaska I beleive.. the ECHL Alaska Aces.. if ya want more info about that, ask me ok and I will provide some links if needed?

Yea, but they have the neighboring states' teams to adopt. Alaskans and Hawaiins dont have the luxury of going to professional sports events unless they pay a lot of money to fly out here in central US.

Do u think they should have NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA in their hometown states?

I think she's talking about major league sport teams not the minor league.

If the population base is larger maybe they will create one of their own? Alaska only has 650,000 and Hawaii has about 1.2 million people.

I think that is the decision of the sports corportations. Look at MD..we are a very very small state and we have a NFL and MLB team.

Alaska does have a minor league hockey team but not a major league like the NHL. Washington state does not have a major league hockey team either.

Maryland may be small but has a population of 5.6 million people. I got that from the city-data website just recently. I don't really know any answer but maybe someone here knows better than I do.

but Washington state does have a major league football, basketball and baseball team.

AZ has an ice hockey team!!! How ironic is that? :giggle:

5.6 million people in MD? How do we all fit in MD? :giggle:

So, I guess it is due to the small population then?

yes that's correct. Yeah it's all backwards haha :giggle: Washington state does have several minor league hockey teams, though. We are going to have a major league soccer team in 2009 from what I heard on the news.

Washington DC metro that's why. ;)

DC is even smaller but yet, DC has a baseball and football team. Guess there is more people in DC than in Alaska and Hawaii.

Just thought it would be interesting if both states were to get a major league team.

I was living in Phx, AZ when the Coyotes came to town. I remember it was such a big mockery cuz we will have an ice hockey team in the middle of the desert and that first or 2nd year, the Coyotes kicked ass! But I remember the mockery from all over the US at us. LOL!
