Alaska and Hawaii

DC is even smaller but yet, DC has a baseball and football team. Guess there is more people in DC than in Alaska and Hawaii.

Just thought it would be interesting if both states were to get a major league team.

Oh yeah it should be interesting to see both of those states out of reach have their own major league sports team.

I was living in Phx, AZ when the Coyotes came to town. I remember it was such a big mockery cuz we will have an ice hockey team in the middle of the desert and that first or 2nd year, the Coyotes kicked ass! But I remember the mockery from all over the US at us. LOL!

Haha really? That's really funny. We may lose Seattle Sonics to Oklahoma City sometime. They bought the team out not long ago and they MAY possible move the team to Oklahoma City and we won't have a professional basketball team anymore. Sonics has been here for a really long time. Lot of Seattlites were pissed off at the fact they're taking them to Oklahoma City. They're all talking about but no action yet.

sara1981 ... Alaska and Hawaii are NOT cities. Those are USA states!!! tsk tsk

i would agree with sequioas!

because Alaska and Hawaii both small cities and have no lives on tv but im sure we have lives on tv in states of 50 states im tell ya!

Funny enough the Phoenix Coyotes happend to be my beloved Winnipeg Jets that had to move due to a rink in Winnipeg that wasnt good enough and not generating enough revenue to stay afloat there... now we do have a new hockey arena the MTS Centre..and one day maybe the NHL will return there.. time will tell... however we do have a team there in the American Hockey League, the Manitoba Moose...

Seq.. I heard about yuor NBA Supersonics that might move.. I hope the team dont.. but thing is the team want a new arena to play in as the current arena KeyArena is not in good shape, as I have read in articles and etc..is that right?

Probably cuz they suck? ;)

I can imagine these teams... "Hawaii Surfers" or "Alaska Eskimos" or something. ;)

Yes Key Arena is old and out of date. It was built in early 1960's. They want to build a new arena but there is no money for that. Why don't those greedy owners pay for it instead of us? They said they want to build it in Renton, Bellevue, etc...but never happened. it's all talk, talk, talk and no action.

hmm....funny thing we have a minor league basketball team in Everett called Everett Explosions. I dunno where that name came from....

Not only Hawaii and Alaska, theres more states that dont have major sports included Idaho, Wymoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, Montana, Oklahoma (will get one soon from Supersonics basketball team), Kansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, Iowa, Maine, Vermont, Rhode Island, Delaware, Virginia, South Carolina, and New Hamsphire... most states have minor sports...

Sara1981 mentioned Alaska and Hawaii dont have live TV for spotrs, its not true, Hawaii does put live TV sports are their college fball game (tends put late night game in EST like 11 pm or 12 am), Maui Invitational (bktball tourney), and Alaska Great Shootout (bktball tourney)...

you may not notice that there is Green Bay, WI which is only hundred thousand in population (220k in metro). Yet, they have professional football team: Packers

However, to be fair, it have big wide location enough to support and attend to Green Bay's stadium.

Alaska have no advantage location wide to be go. And cannot afford such an expensive seats. Either in Hawaii.

That was what I thought, Seq... seems the Sonics owner trying to play hardball with the Seattle politics.. he gonna be one hated guy if he do move the Sonic to OKC... oh man... couldnt the city of Seattle put in a compromise with the Sonic owner to help pay half half for a new arena the half from the city, the half from the owner... simple enough or so?

Shel: You are wondering how such small area like Maryland and DC can have so many professional sports in so little area. One was stated already, that despite the area, population is high. Next and most importantly is the proximity to nearby fan bases and population to follow and view the sport live. So, despite the small area to see the major sports in Baltimore and DC there are millions and millions of people within 100-200 miles where those teams still might be of particular interest.

This relates to the Hawaii and Alaska topic. There is relatively small population to be of viable support to the team, and even more importantly there is no available proximity of fan base to also support the team.

Farewell: There are major sports in Utah, duh. Utah Jazz and Real Salt Lake MLS.
