SSI over paid me.

lol.. well, why would I want to do that if you know where I'm going to put it?.. If I decided to do what you suggested, then you'll come and find my money...??? I think not. :ugh3:

Awww, it was just in a manner of speaking, jesting, even and now I'm a thief? Interesting.....but I hope you were kidding as well....

I get all that stuff too and let me tell ya, 13 dollars a week in food stamps dont go far. btw, 8,400.00 bucks a year is signifcantly way below what the poverty line is.

LOL, I get $147 a month in food stamps. I tell ya, that is PLENTY for me.

For sure, I will going call SSI tomorrow and explain them about already got job.

Thanks for helping...

It's not that simple you have to show them proof of pay subs too, and if you don't they will find out on your tax return how much you make a year and then you'll be one sorry guy owing them back money. Just do it the right way, or you'll regret it later. ;)

If that happened when you was under 18 then your parents should be the ones to be paying them back?? I don't know I'd try to fight that myself. You was a minor. Yes it was for you..But them being your payee they should have been responsible for it all under 18 years older. But that's the Government for ya..As pathetic as they can be & greeting when it comes to money..

I moved here when I was 6 year old. My parents were full time students so I was able to collect SSI for approximately 1-2 years. During that time, SSI over paid me. Now, that I am 18 and I am collecting benefits on my own as adult. They (SSI) are deducting money monthly from my check.

WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR THEIR MISTAKE???

I understand about your situations, everything are Costly, I went to college for 7 months and quit, because they gave me a baby craps easy to read English, I was in public school in high school I had highest levels in English, they puts me back all the way to a baby english book, I got up and walks and never came back to that class, I had Arts class I enjoy, but it wasn't the right Arts class that I didn't ask for, Mostly they wanted you to go back to school again, from the way I see it, it just the same than'g in school, nothing different, so I left the college after 7 month and got a job and I got more freedom and roammmmms everywhere I goes..... ---

Umm ... You were in the high level in English class? I hate to offend you but there are many many grammer errors in your writing. You got me confused here. :hmm: I can understand you are frustrated in getting a job and many more.

^^^^ LOL

What about hearing people living off on welfare ??? they are worst than deaf people who are on ssi. at least , deaf people tried but some idiotic hearing people dont want to acknowledge their ability and talents.

Until hearing people GET EDUCATED and start to hire deaf people regardless their hearing status. Understand?

how about the fact that u get ssi just for being deaf? i pay taxes into social security, and since u cant hear it and i can, the recording states "some people think that there is a special fund set aside for them. that isnt true, the money u pay TODAY goes into paying Social Security TODAY. ... blah blah blah we're giving u money just because u can't hear me saying this even though there are plenty of jobs out there and u can easily go get a job doing the same thing thousands of other people do ie fed ex, dhl, overnight stocker at target or kroger or something else" go get a job. and definitely quit bitching about the fact that they take SOME money out of ur FREE MONTHLY check!!!! u get free money, so stop whining about everything and go get a job!!!! :rl:

Guess u got banned but u still can read this. I had a job in my 20s and people who got hired before me kept getting promoted over me so I asked my boss why I wasnt getting promoted. He said due to my inability to hear I wasnt qualified for a promotion. I quit the next day. How would u like to live like that? Also I went on SSI to go to college so I can get a job...how stupid of me, huh? LOL!

Besides can those kinds of jobs support a family and enable us to buy houses? NOpe unless we get promoted but unfortunately many regional supervisors feel that deaf people cant manage a large store. Been there and it is not fun. Oh I forgot..u are banned so never mind.

Watch your word :ugh:

Umm.. quick comment. I'm hearing.. and I don't agree with anyone hearing deaf or otherwise abusing the social security system. Being in the business I'm in and have been in before I see alot of people abusing the system just because they can. And there are alot more who abuse the system who waste money that some of us actually go out and try to earn. So that is frustrating to watch. Surely you've experianced something like that?

And for the person who decided to get SSI to go to school... that is extremly frustrating for me. I may be hearing and I may have a full time job but I STILL can not afford to go to school. I have only managed to go one year. I've tried saving and the cost of going to college rises every year and I never have enough. It frustrates me because you are deaf, you can cut your hours at work, if you work, and you get a free check. I've worked for as long as I was able to and I barely scrap enough money to get by sometimes.
That isn't fair at all.

Try to see it from both sides. Hearing people who try to do things right, get absolutely no where... but those that abuse the system by having 2-5 kids to get more money, hearing or deaf, absolutely frustrate me and I think they should all have it ripped right out from under them.

Well..is it fair that deaf people cant be pilots, police officers, austronauts, be in the armed forces and get a GI Joe bill, and many more? Life is not fair. The govt set it up that way and if it opened up an opportunity for me to go to school, sure I will grab it. Besides if u or other hearing people cant afford college, look for scholarships, grants or financial aid? I got a student loan to pay for the costs of my tution and books and I am paying it back. I will take whatever means to get myself thru college cuz my parents couldnt afford it. If u really wanted to go to college, u can find a way. My ex hubby is hearing and he was in the same shoes but he found a way to finish college while working full time by taking advantage of different programs. As far as I know, those are offered to hearing people just as SSI is offered to deaf people. At least I put my SSI in good use and now I am working and I am paying that SSI back. As for others that abuse it, I dont know anything about it cuz I dont know anyone who has abused SSI. :dunno:

Now those people who are abusing SSI or welfare are taking my well earned money but I dont complain cuz I learned from growing up that life is not fair and it is not worth crying over it. My life was tough being the only deaf child in a hearing school but I got over it and now I can try to put my experience in good use.

Honestly, it is very hard for deaf people to get good paying jobs that enable us to support housing, family, and other costs but the ones that I personally know do try hard to become part of the working world and not rely on SSI. Not all deaf people abuse the system.

Oh boo fucking hoo...get a life.

I am on SSI and food stamps so that I can finish college. My goal is to get the skills I need so I can get a job in the Graphic Design field. Not all of us abuse SSI and food stamps. No need to paint us all with a broad paintbrush. I am unable to work many certain kinds of jobs due to being deaf and also due to my hip dysplasia and bad back. That cuts out a lot of jobs for me. I figured that if I learned the skills I needed for Graphic Design I will be able to work a job like that because it involves computers and art. Not really physical.

go visit Social Security Online. read ssa information..

ssi- full time student, paying rent and bills.
dont buy car and computer you will get in trouble, pay back..

ssdi- if you work part time job, you get 400 dollars a month
if you can get full time job for 9 months then its cut off
you can buy car and computer..

SSI stands for soical security income under gov state
SSDI stands for social security disablity insurance under gov federal

SSI you get meicard because they are not taxpayer
SSDI you get medical because they are taxpayer

You got it wrong

SSI =
SSI, or Supplemental Security Income, is a federal program that provides monthly cash payments to people who do not have much income or own many things. SSI is for elderly people, as well as blind or disabled people of any age, including children.

no matter which benefit one get will eventually get MediCare regardless of being taxpayer or not.

Most states EXCEPT California, they get Medicare. in California, They get MediCal.

Most states like New York issues Medicaid not because of their qualification for SSI or SSDI.

There are many way to qualify for Medicare;
http://ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/ssa.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=400 not just SSDI.

This link tells you what the qualification to get SSDI or SSI;
http://www.ssa.gov/d&s1.htm

Uncle Sam goes 1 plus 1 equals 2 and 2 plus 2 equals you owe me.

Oh by the way, Lizzardhere..I am paying back SSI so how does that make me taking advantage of your tax dollars? It is being paid back. :ugh3:

OHH..u want to hear something funny? Hearing people do take advantage or abuse the SSI system. I know a few deaf friends of mine whose hearing husbands told them to stay home with their kids but when they expressed their wishes to go back to work after their children start school full time their husbands told them they they prefer them to continue to stay home. U what was their reasons? They told them that it is better for them to continue to stay home so they wont lose their SSI cuz it is free money. Their hearing husbands said that not my deaf girlfriends so dont blame it on deaf people. Hearing people do it too. If u want to blame someone, blame it on our govt for starting up SSI.

Good Paying Jobs?

Merely because a person is hearing does not mean that they are going to be entitled to better paying jobs. Earlier mention of pilots and firefighters is a case in point, many active military personnel with an acute interest in flying are not going to every see the inside of a plane due to a wide variety of reasons. Flight schools and fighter pilot testing programs can almost be twice as rigorous as any normal boot camp. Out of say, 200 people that might apply for flight school only about 50 will be accepted and out of those 50 probably anywhere from 10 to 15 will make the final cut because the remaining ones will drop out. Same scenario with people in the Marine Corp that want to be involved in special operations. Many qualified applicants will be turned down before even making an interview. NCIS and other special investigations teams receive thousands of applications a year, out of those thousands they only select a handful of people to hire and out of that handful only a tiny majority will become NCIS agents.
As far as other fields, I like Lizzardhere am a relay operator and I deal with professional business owners, medical transcriptionist who are all deaf, therefore making the point about getting good jobs nil. As for myself, I was a cab driver in New York City for over 5 years. I saw people, with a better working knowledge of the city that I , better drivers than I , quit on the first day because it is not just about being qualified in the working world it is about dealing with the stress that can come with any job. I was qualified to work in an emergency room once, I quit on the third day because it was not suited for me. My point being, is that in the working world, getting good jobs is very tough whether you are deaf or whether you are a hearing person like myself. I have been on my own since I was 17 years old and had to work at alot of menial that I did not like in order to support myself. Peace !
