Crocodile Hunter’s death won’t be shown on TV
Irwin’s widow and his business partner do not plan to release footage

Updated: 10:14 p.m. ET Sept 26, 2006
NEW YORK - “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin’s widow says she hasn’t seen the film of her husband’s deadly encounter with a stingray and that it won’t ever be shown on television.

“What purpose would that serve?” Terri Irwin said in an interview with ABC’s Barbara Walters scheduled to air on television Wednesday in the United States and Australia.

Irwin, 44, died Sept. 4 when a stringray’s barb pierced his chest while he filmed a TV show on the Great Barrier Reef. A memorial service held for him last week was broadcast on three television networks in Australia.

Irwin’s friend and business partner, John Stainton, has seen the film. He told Walters he never wants to see it again and doesn’t want anyone else to see it, either. “It’s just a horrible piece of film tape,” he said.

American-born Terri Irwin said she was on a research trip in Australia with the couple’s two children — 8-year-old daughter Bindi and 2-year-old son Bob — when her brother-in-law reached her with the news.

“I remember thinking, ‘Don’t say it. Don’t say it. Don’t say it,”’ she said. “I looked out the window, and Bindi was skipping, skipping along outside the window. And I thought, ‘Oh, my children. He wouldn’t have wanted to leave the children.’ And I knew it was an accident. It was an accident so stupid. It was like running with a pencil.”

She said it’s important for her family to continue the work her husband did in teaching the world about wildlife.

“I’ve always told Bindi, ‘If anything ever happened to me, I will always watch over you from Heaven,”’ she said. “But she always understood because living at a zoo, animals die, she’s seen death. She knows what death is.”

Irwin told Walters she is getting through her grief “one minute at a time.”

She said her son Bob recently took a screwdriver out of the drawer and said he was going to fix the family’s motorbike.

“Off he goes, very carefully carrying it like it was a lit candle,” she said. “Goes up to the motorbike and starts poking at it. I said, ‘what are you doing to the motorbike?’ He said, ‘I’m fixing the motorbike so daddy can drive it from heaven.”’

Awww will not going to return the show?? I would love to see all of them which I didnt watch all his show :(

How sad for this family.

I respect Terri's as it is best to remember him alive when she last saw him.

I heard this film going to be destroyed after the police were satisfied to watch everything before I left for my holiday in NZ.

Like Princess Diana's death, her photos never released to the public.

Except for the President JFK film is open for everyone to view his last car journey at Dallas.

They are talking about just one tape that was made during Steve Irwin's ancident that will not shown in public on TV. Ofc other good tapes will be shown on TV and Irwin's family too from time to time. Undy?

Oh man, poor Bob, and he was thinking of his daddy in heaven. He dont understand the death yet but one day he will. too all of the Irwin's family.

How sad! I got goose bumps! Terri wanted respect so I do respect her though.

RIP Steve Iwrin (yes I will keep repeat it!)

I would wholeheartedly understand why Terri and Steve's business partner does not wish to air his death on the television because it is out of respect for the family and the friends. Also, Whatever is shown on the tape of his death could also be disturbing as well to the viewers. I know that there are some viewers who would want to see how it had happened but at the same time, there should be some decency to keep it out of the public's eye for the respect of Irwin's family and friends.

Certainly, They are going through a hard time and they are entitled to mourn as much as we do. So with that, They will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

I am glad that last film won’t ever be shown on tv and destory it pleases! I am so sad about his family! His daughter is very brave!

Peace

I dont blame them that they dont want the footage of the incident to be aired to the public cuz it can be distrubing to the viewers due to blood and whatever else. It is not good. Animal Planet also said they wont air the footage too out of respect for the family. so that is good!

Yeah im sure the footage will be destroyed and never to be seen again .. but maybe police will keep it in custody i dont know.. who knows!

aww that break my heart hearing that baby Bob said fixing motorbike so daddy can drive from heaven to earth. :( he is so sweet and trying to help. :( i hope one day he will understand.... :(

ohhhh I got it now :) yeah respect Terri's and their families and Steve's friends :)

I feel bad for his kids, I am pretty sure kids will always miss their daddy.

I am totally respect on his family and friends.

Im not surprised that they decided not to show the tape to the public...from what Ive read, its a gruesome tragedic death. Naturally the family don't want people to take advantage by making $$ off Steve's death and have respect for him.

Yesterday I saw photos of Steve's final moments in the water in the National Enquirer and it was obviously faked. Exploitation never ends. *sigh*

Those people wanted to see HOW he dies, I call them a "sick-minded" people, who logs on the rotten.com everyhours. Fuck yeah, they shouldn't live on this planet.

He got killed by a stingray, and that is very good information for me to know, and there's no need for me to know "A - Z" details of his death.

The rotten.com website really does not have any good valid points but the ogrish.com website does and they do have some good points to consider about safety and I check the ogrish.com website once or twice a week to see what is going on. I agree Steve Irwin's death should not be shown. I can imagine the struggle in the water then his eyes and mouth as he tries to get the stingray out of his heart. Shudders to think about that ...... Better to remember him for his good wildlife work.

Jo, i agree with that bec death is an scared thing and shld not be shown in public.. glad they choose it also remmy Dale E. s death is the same boat

Yes Terri & her family have my respect. Why should it necassary to watch how Steve killed? The news about him is good enough. I keep Steve as good memory instead of curious to see what/how he died...

I would lost my respect on Terri if she use Steve's death to the public for her profit.

Don't you know that Charles Spencer, Princess Diana's brother made a business after death of her beloved sister...? *shake my head disgusit*

Of course, most cause of deaths of celebrities aren't shown in public. I feel for Terri's grieve with her husband's death which was unexpected!

Rest in peace nature boy, Steve!
