Jury sentences Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to death

BOSTON—After ten weeks of heart-wrenching and often gruesome testimony from more than 150 witnesses, including survivors with missing limbs and an anguished father who spoke of watching his young son die on the sidewalk in front of him, a jury sentenced Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to the death penalty for his role in the deadly 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

Tsarnaev offered no visible reaction.

The decision came a little over two years after a pair of pressure-cooker bombs ripped through a crowd of unsuspecting spectators near the marathon’s finish line in April 2013, killing three and injuring nearly 300. Among the injured: 17 amputees, many who took the stand against Tsarnaev with bomb shrapnel still embedded in their bodies.

The same jury—seven women and five men--convicted Tsarnaev on April 8 on all 30 counts related to the bombings, including the shooting death of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer days after the attacks. They then heard roughly three weeks of testimony in the penalty phase of the case, in which they were asked to determine whether to sentence Tsarnaev to life in prison without parole or the death penalty for his role in the bombings

Though Tsarnaev pled not guilty, Judy Clarke, his attorney, admitted her client’s role on day one of the first phase of the trial in March and repeatedly reiterated it, right up until the closing statements in the penalty phase. “I'm not asking you to excuse him,” Clark told jurors. “There are no excuses. I'm not asking you for sympathy.”

I hope these evil nutters don't try repricials bc they evil enough to

Saw comments, very interesting point of view.

I know many will say "being in prison for the rest if your life is worse punishment than the death penalty", but I disagree. You'd be shocked at what people can get used to. If life in prison was truly worse than the death penalty, everybody with 20+ years would kill themselves. Most life long prisoners learn to find joy in small, mundane things. Collecting things, working out, phone calls all become you're new sources of enjoyment. This young man will work out, maybe draw/write, maybe even make some friends with the Muslim community in prison (I realize he'll likely be in protective custody, but he will likely have some limited contact with others). Then, just when he gets settled in, he will be dragged down a hall, kicking a screaming, and injected with poison while his family and victims families watch him die. I like it.

Well that was an emotional post. But.why do you think he will.be dragged kicking and.screaming to his death. Most people executed dont get dragged kicking and screaming to.their execution chamber. Most go, accepting their fate.
He will die a martyr for his cause.and get his 70 virgins with allahh or what ever...
I wouldnt get any enjoyment or boner watching anyone get executed unlike the guy who wrote the qouted post.
As for.the rest of the post
Meh
He wont be in protective custody. He will go to Death row.
life in prison for some its unbearible and they suicied, for others its murder. For the others its a well adapted long life.
It very much depends on what your made of.
Thats all.

I heard that on a Boston Editorial that he should get live in jail so he will suffer the rest of the life like the victims will have to their whole life.

I was surprise he got the death penalty in my state , I knew a juror was undecided about this . It would be great if he was killed right away so there would be no appeals the victims would have to go to. Some victims wanted him to get live in jail so they would not have to go appeals every few years .

He will be executed in federal prison in Indiana.

The trial was held in 'Massachusetts' and people voted against having the death penalty here so this is why I was surprised the jury voted for it. There are a lot of people did not think a 'Massachusetts' jury would vote for 'death'. It's know for being the most liberal state and the verdict was reach here in Massauchettes .
I just heard on the news it could be at least 10 years before he put to death . .

How come I feel just a little sympathetic towards this chap?

If you figure that out please let me know.... For how anyone could I am lost...

I guess it would be because he was young and very easily manipulated. The male brain develops slowly and mix religion with it....... bad deal.

I'm not a doctor I'm an idiot. I feel like he was manipulated is all. I'm not excusing it. Hi. :D

He showed no remorse during the whole trial , he was indifference toward all the victims the spoke so I really have no idea how anyone can have any sympathetic feeling for the monster .

Well I thought I was clear. I'm not sure why. I guess I'm a human being and not an animal.

Yes, I'm surprised about state of Massachusetts and I know this state is very anti-death penalty.

Of course, I noticed that prisoners aren't execute until 10-30 years later.

I'm wonder if death penalty cell is worse than tiny cell in ADX Florence.

He's from Washington state so he's probably too high. :hmm:

I understood what you said , I know there are people that do feel bad for him and I can't don't see why they do. He had 4 minutes to change his mind about blowing up the bomb and not killing that little boy and he chose to kill the poor child. There is no way I can feel sorry for a person like that no matter how young or old they're.

Actually dip **** I've never smoked the stuff. I have an opinion based on world experience. If you disagree that's fine.
