What are you doing right now? Part II

Drinking my iced flat white coffee from Starbucks.

Headed back to Chicago..... and wondering how UP can keep a certain very LONG gate from falling flat on the ground.

Pondering a letter I just got in the mail. Had to sign for it.

It's from the Dept of Human Svcs in a state on the other side of the country. They're asking if I'm a relative of a couple of kids in foster care and if I want to help in any way. I MAY be a great aunt to the kids, but not sure. I sent an email to my brother-in-law (husband's half-brother) asking if these kids are his grandkids. I know he's raising one of his grandchildren and wonder if these two are also from the same mom. We only talk about once a year, when he calls me around the holidays. Hope he sees and responds to the email I sent. If he doesn't, I'll call him.

I doubt I'll offer any help since I've only met their mom, if indeed it his my niece, once, when she was a kid herself. I may send the names of a couple of other relatives they can contact. One of them might be willing to help.

Trying to understand why my deaf guy friend would remain silent after asking me how I feel about him? and coming to terms with the reality that I need to move on

Making plans to head back to Brookfield Zoo tomorrow, and afterwards, head to downtown Brookfield on the BNSF Metra line. Hoping it's not as windy as it was last Saturday. I might stop elsewhere on that line, too, as I saw a couple of places I'd like to try and check out.

Did they say how they got your name, and did they want you to take the kids in, or some financial help.

If that is too many questions, just ignore.

I'd make sure this was not a scam....sounds kind of suspicious to me.

I'm guessing my brother-in-law (their grandfather) might have given them my name. Taking the kids in (temp or perm) or financial help are two ways they're asking if I want to help. Or just keep in touch with them with emails/letters. Maybe provide family history, etc. I may send them my sister-in-law's name even though she's not a blood relative of the grandfather (my husband's parents married after they both had kids with other spouses). My SIL would have more info than me, I'm sure. Plus I have addresses for my BIL's siblings. I don't want to give this info out until after I hear from my BIL.

I already have all that information. I've pretty much narrowed my list to a couple of places locally, and I intend to start there first. I'll also need to verify that the rent is still the same at these places I have my eyes on. One is on Winthrop, the other is just up the street on Kenmore. Both are nearby, and easy to move to. If one of the two are open, then I can begin the process of moving out. One place in particular has ALL utilities, and that's where I'm starting first.

Any update on the apartment search?

I was kind of thinking that, but I think Love Blue will have it under control without being scammed.

Which is why I'm trying to contact my BIL.
Plus, I have no $$ to give to distant relatives, so if it is a scam, they're out of luck, from me at least.
I will not give out others info w/o checking with them first.

I know, I can sense you're very level headed.

Don't loan money to anyone especially family if your expecting to get it back. I learned the hard way people I've lent to both family and friends if it was all added up it'd be in the thousands. Never got a penny of it back either.

truth!

Making plans for this afternoon, and since it's Wednesday, I might as well get started on weekend plans. I'm considering a Friday trip to Oak Lawn, IL, on the Southwest Service from Metra. I've already been on the Northwest Line, now this line is completely different.

I started verifying the apartments I have a list of, and as usual, all came up empty. However, I may have hit the jackpot, because there is one building that has availability, and the rent there is super CHEAP. I was :jaw: when I saw the prices.

I don't/won't.
