CVS to win big by stop selling cigarettes

I would love see you quit smoking… So is other too.

They probably need the public exposure. Have you seen how many Walgreens have set up shop right by a CVS? Walgreens is trying to shut them down. Anyway, back to the publicity, and them needing it, they may want to spin this so it sounds like they're doing something healthy, and thereby attracting customers. But that's spin, it might actually cost them more $$ than they make in them in licensing, fines, and I wonder how much if their stock expires and has to be trashed. Smokers buy their cigs at the gas station. I can count on one hand how many times I bought smokes at a pharmacy, and I smoked for 21 years. They cost more there. Hell gas stations are cheaper than Walmart for cigs.

I thought all the drug stores had limits on pain killers. When my son-in-law had his leg amputated (industrial accident) he was in extreme pain for weeks. When my daughter tried to fill his pain killer prescriptions after he got home she could only get partial ones. She came home from the drug store hoppin' mad.

I've never heard of it ... my neuro gives me hydro 90 per month if I need with a few refills it last 2 years but anytime I've gotten it refilled they've always had it and the last time was in December.

Like someone said its a PR stunt to get in customers to quit selling tobacco ... Walgreens bought out Kerr Drug last year and is in the process of changing them over ... Rite Aid bought out Eckerds ages ago ...

DEA tightening up the regulation on pain killer. Primary doctor and pharmacy are now requiring communicate with state department of health, open up database. Intended to prevent somebody doing narcotic pill shopping, create fake script, and so on. They require drug test, must write up a damn good reason why need RX, and if you go to specialist, they won't give you rx for narcotic pain killer, you have to see your own primary care doctor. Other is that patient is required to visit doctor every time rx is being refilled. 90 days supply no longer allowed AND so on! Not easy to get it anymore. I don't think it hits 50 states, BUT they are spreading right now… Started right here in NYS!, Virginia copied their idea.

BTW? Is it working deter from illegal RX? Yes, for now. Somebody near here got busted for writing up fake RX, by pretending they were doctor for a patient.

Yes in North Carolina there is a database now the pharmacy sends narcotic script fills to and any dr/hospital or healthcare provider has access to it to verify the person isn't just pill shopping ... example ... I was rear ended in my truck in Oct 2012 and the ER dr checked it and seen I had a current script for hydro and mentioned it ... but you don't have to get the script from your primary care physician here ... neurologist (specialist) I see once a year since I was hospitalized in 2001 is who prescribes it ... prints a script which he signs and give to me ... my primary care physician WILL NOT give scripts for narcotics to chronic patients he refers them to a pain clinic which I won't go to ... narcotic scripts expire after 6 months rather than a year like everything else ... it may be your dr but specialists can and will give a script for a narcotic of they see fit and there is no type of drug test either for anything...

It will start apply all 50 state, you may be fine for now but later on IF Federal DEA decide go New York style. I predict more crimes coming up. When one is truly on pain and can't get treatment will go nuts. Blame them or DEA?
Here in ER, they will give you only few days supply that is it, same with Dentist, they can give you just few days too. Only primary care Dr can prescribe 30 days. Nobody can give 90 days supply anymore.

A guy here not far from here had got these pain killer in the past, but because Dr refused prescribe him these pain killer, that poor guy decided try heroin to relieve pain and died from overdose. What good is that law for him? What protection? My ass!

As for myself I had trouble getting the pain killer, I was close to try Cocaine! I know it will take away the pain, you see the drug law actually encouraged me try more dangerous drugs that I really don't even want try but will if pain is out of control. Since I never tried Cocaine, but I DO know the source or where to get it and it won't be a problem for me. Thank God the days of severe pain has gone and I HOPEFULLY won't have to deal with them again, and refused return my old job out of fear dealing with severe pain and no pain killer due to stupid laws.

This is why I believe these drug law is actually the gateway to drug problems we have today.

what? a pure speculation. a really bad one that is.

the guy wasn't refused painkillers because of the law... the doctor refused to give it to him. that guy can just see another doctor to get some.

but then... the doctor probably refused to give him more painkillers because he must have suspected some indications that he was abusing drugs and/or wanted to OD on it.

huh? a drug law can actually encourage you to try a more dangerous drug? huh? exactly how?

I don't get it. cocaine is certainly not a "more dangerous" drug... prescription drug is dangerous and can kill you... which is why it requires prescription and regulation!

if your pain has gotten so bad to the point where you need more painkillers which is enough to kill you..... then how can cocaine help you?

Right now it's CVS, Walgreens and I think Rite-Aid. Some of the wholesalers refuse to supply even small independents that have a high clientele of pain clients, like pharmacies that are next to hospitals or rehab centers, and of course they are going to be used for pain meds more heavily. It started because of the problems in Florida where the pain med mills were, where doctors were jus writing prescriptions for the money. The doctors were jailed, the pharmacies were punished for doing things like giving too many prescriptions in cash and to non-local people. Then the DEA decided that there's a certain amount of pain meds that each pharmacy should be prescribing (which amounts to them practicing medicine), and the wholesalers are picking and choosing who they supply the medicine to.

Wow! The problem is really YOU!

You better research what Cocaine is and what it helps and what nots. Cocaine has the pain killing properties just like opiates.

Your really, really too naive and focus only book than learn from real life. Sad!

Yes, it is part of reason why there is changes. But why punish those who truly need them? Why apply EVERYBODY as criminal before clear up? It is pretty much like, your GUILTY, until your proven innocent by DEA. Is that how they approach everybody? Why can't they just leave the innocent ones alone and chase the bastards?

I have other issues that were close related to this one, and not going to go off the subject, but the way I am seeing... Government is trying to control everybody in really, really sleezy way just for their own gain.

So what if CVS stops selling cigarettes? There are plenty of places that sell them. That news is no big deal!

DEA is doing a good job. A greatest law enforcement agency. They busted deaf people for selling heroin and cocaine. A few are in federal prisons where BOP is giving them a hard time with VRS and interpreters. State police arrested deaf people and put them in state jails, where often there is VRS and terps are available.

Don't like the DEA? Then don't use drugs. Simple. Don't help the Colombians.

Oh wow, I want to shut DEA down.

Here in VA, pack of cigarettes at CVS is 51 dollars. In MD 71 bucks. In DC 81 bucks. Yep NY has the highest sales. 100 bucks.
and gas cheaper in Northern VA than MD.

DEA is good? You are really brainwashed. DEA has very longest history that misled about pots for many years and we had drug program at public school that endorsed by DEA, and they said smoking pots can kill us. I don't believe in DEA propaganda and the drug war is one of biggest failure in American history. DEA doesn't have any benefit as organization and I want DEA to shut down, so let FBI take care of drug trafficking and let states make decision with possession of drugs.

Also, I have some libertarian views, so shut DEA down is part of shrinking the size of federal government.

Is this a joke?

yes I know cocaine is an opiate and it's made from cocoa plant..... and it's illegal. so you've tried it before?

and are you suggesting that I should try cocaine?

government? are you sure?

you sure it's not pharmaceutical companies who lobbied to government to make it illegal?
