Bikers terrorizes young family in suv

While two men involved in an alleged attack on a SUV driver in New York City are in custody, police say they are scouring hours of footage and photos taken at the scene to pursue others who may have played a role in the beating.

The NYPD is investigating whether there may have been as many as five off-duty police officers in the sport bike ride that ended with the alleged assault on Range Rover driver Alexian Lien.
Overnight, the NYPD released photos of what police said is a person of interest who is believed to have been involved at the scene of the alleged assault.

Lien was driving his SUV on the West Side Highway in Manhattan with his wife and 2-year-old as part of a wedding anniversary celebration around 2 p.m. Sunday when their SUV was surrounded by the motorcyclists, who were doing an annual ride through the city, police and Lien's wife said.

The bikers tried to slow traffic and one biker cut Lien off, slowing down and leading Lien to bump into the biker, police said. The group of motorcyclists then slowed down further and surrounded the SUV, causing Lien to accelerate away from the group.

Lien's wife, Rosalyn Ng, said her husband feared for their lives when he decided to take off to get away from the group. As he sped off, Lien hit some of the motorcyclists, critically injuring one, authorities said.

Other motorcyclists chased Lien's SUV and then bashed in his windows, pulled him out of the car, and beat him, police said.

Two men seen on video committing the most violent actions at the scene are in custody.
Robert Sims, 35, who allegedly grabbed the SUV's door about five minutes into the video, turned himself in to police in Brooklyn earlier Friday, NYPD officials said.

Robert Sims, 35, who allegedly grabbed the SUV's door about five minutes into the video, turned himself in to police in Brooklyn earlier Friday, NYPD officials said.

He faces charges of gang assault, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said this morning.

Sims was arrested in 1998 for possession of a loaded firearm and a samurai sword, and he served eight months in jail, police said.
Reginald Chance, 38, Brooklyn, N.Y., also surrendered to police late Friday. He allegedly was the man seen on video using his helmet to smash the driver's side window of the Range Rover before the video cut off and the alleged assault took place.

Chance's possible role in the alleged assault beyond the window smashing was not immediately clear. There was no immediate information on charges or an arraignment.

An undercover police officer was among the crowd of motorcyclists on the scene as Lien was beaten on Sunday, officials confirmed to ABC News Friday.
The undercover narcotics cop did not intervene in the beating out of fear that his cover would be blown, sources said.

The cop's identity has not been released by the NYPD. According to officials, the officer notified his superiors days after the incident. He was a motorcyclist who was there on his own time, they said.

The information was part of the ongoing investigation by the NYPD and the Manhattan district attorney into the confrontation and beating that happened Sunday afternoon between a group of 20 to 30 motorcyclists and Lien. The incident was caught on video and uploaded to the Internet.

The officer's involvement was also the subject of an Internal Affairs investigation, sources said.

A source briefed on the case told ABC News that in the days since the attack, "new evidence has been coming in and it will give prosecutors much better evidence for charging the attackers."

The new evidence included additional video footage and stills compiled from a variety of cameras that were situated around the scenes of the chase and melee, the source said.

Even the Hells Angels are appalled by a motorcycle gang’s savage beatdown of a father on the West Side Highway — saying the heartless brutes crossed a line when they messed with a family.

“That kind of behavior is unacceptable — and with a kid in the car, nonetheless! I have a 3-year-old niece,” said one biker who was hanging out at the Hells Angels’ East Village headquarters Thursday.

As many as six bikers preyed on victim dad Alexian Lien, kicking him in the head even as he tried to crawl to safety, prosecutors said as the first of the accused fist-swingers, Robert Sims, 35, of Brooklyn, was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court Saturday night on charges of gang assault and felony assault.

Sims was identified on video and photographs by his distinctive black leather jacket, grey backpack, his helmet, which featured the number, “78,” and his grey and white sneakers — which prosecutors say Sims used to kick the cowering dad’s head and body.

“The defendant is clearly seen stomping on [Lien’s] head,” assistant district attorney Joshua Steinglass told Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Diana Boyar, who set a whopping $100,000 cash bail.

Sims — whose rap sheet includes a 2002 bust for car theft, and gun possession, drug possession and samauri sword possession in 1998, according to sources — has admitted he’s been caught on camera, the prosecutor said.

Meanwhile, a source close to the case told The Post that the off-duty NYPD undercover detective who stood by Lien was attacked — and who only came forward Wednesday — is insisting that the violence broke with blinding speed, and that he believed blowing his cover could endanger his own life.

“It all happened so fast,” said the source, who talked directly to the undercover and spoke to The Post on the condition of anonymity. “It wasn’t apparent what was happening till the very end — then it was a feeding frenzy.”

Added Detectives Endowment Association president Michael Palladino, “Leading a double life is not easy for undercovers.”

Palladino pointed to the case of Detective Gescard Isnora, the undercover cop who blew his own cover and fired the first shot in the 50-bullet fusillade that killed Sean Bell outside a Queens strip club in 2006.

“Detective Isnora was on-duty and got fired for stepping out of his undercover role,” Palladino said. “This undercover was off-duty and has every reason to expect the same if something goes wrong.”

The motorcycle-loving undercover — whose work is being described as dangerous and “deep undercover” — had joined last Sunday’s 300-rider rally, and admits watching and doing nothing as Lien was attacked in front of his wife and 2-year-old daughter near 178th Street.

The undercover has had his badge and gun yanked and remains under departmental investigation after only coming forward as a witness on Wednesday night.

A second cop was along for the ride, multiple sources have said, and is also under departmental investigation after coming forward only days after the incident.

Yeah that would be a tough call to make. I wonder if he would have gotten in trouble with his supervisors and blown his cover by trying to stop it? Probably, guy was in a lose lose situation, and freaking scarey. They were already in beat down mode gang mentality and he's just one guy. I wonder if he was even armed at the time.

I love how these bikers are trying to pretend they are the victims. It may have started out as a stupid biker causing an accident but anyone who tries to come in my car where my family is is a treat. Anyone who attacks my vehicle is a threat. Anyone who intentionally blocks my path of escape from people attacking me is a treat.

They try to make it sound like they where saving the public from a road raged driver and that is just such bull. If you are a treat to my family I will take every action necessary to insure their safety.

If they truly meant him no harm then they should have sent one person to go talk to the SUV driver instead of surrounding his car and blocking his path to me that is an act of aggression in itself.

After the accident it's impossible to tell exactly what happened between the bikers and the SUV driver but you can see that the bikers took aggressive action by trapping the SUV. The SUV driver took only the steps necessary to escape the situation. At no time did I see him swerve in an attempt to intentionally hit bikers. After that it is obvious that he is being chased down by a mob of angry bikers who eventually catch him and beat and cut him after smashing up his car containing his family.

Personally I believe that at the point they started chasing him he should have used his car more effectively to protect his family.

I mean even the undercover cop was to scared to do anything.

Those are def crotch rockets, and yes they do have bike clubs, and they even have female bike clubs. I wouldn't go so far as to say they are ultra skilled just because they're faster than Harley's.

I live in myrtle beach, in the spring we have two bike weeks back to back. Harley bike week kicks off on mithers day abs the following week is The Atlantic Beach Bike week, aka Black bike week and they mostly ride crotch rockets. A couple years ago on of my clients was a firefighter. She came in for a massage right after both bike weeks were done. We talked about her horrible last 2 weeks, but she told me of the the 2 bike weeks Atlantic Beach Bike week is worse. More accidents, worse accidents and more public disturbances. I personally have seen the guys on crutch rockets do incredibly stupid crap on the roads while they're here.
Yep. I've been to MB for both bike weeks. We attended one Bike Week on our bike (which is a cruiser). The other bike week, aka Black Bike Week, we just happened to be in MB that day so that I could take my NIC test. It was something to see, for sure.

I can't believe this wife is suing the driver!!! Oh wait, yes I can.... Fu**ing people out to get any little bit of money they can. I can't wait until she loses and is made fun of by everyone. Look at her face, all serious and s**t. "Ooooooh my poor baby run over by an SUV because he was being a little thug and lost with an SUV" DURP! I ride a bike, and you're damn right I know me versus SUV is not going to end pretty.

Wirelessly posted

Well the biker's wife isn't going to win. If he wasn't involved then he should have left and sought help for the SUV driver. Insted he sat on the bike trying to block the SUV driver from leaving. Fearing for his and his family life he did the right thing. He got the hell out of there. Too bad, so sad for the biker that was blocking his path. I would have rammed myself out if I was fearing for my life.

Holy crap, they're on an arresting frenzy! Good, need to catch all those little ass hats.
