My encounter with JW at door today...

Are ya'll sure it was JW??? Or was it the mormons?? They sent people out like that and there called "elders" or missionaries they go door to door as well and yes the missionaries visit in the US besides other countries.

It is easy to identify Mormons at door when they carry their name badge in pocket of their shirt. JW people do not use any name tags.

If I recall correctly, Mormons do not use their female members to stop by at door of strangers' houses.

I saw some JW's or Mormons biking outside in 110F weather today, with their ties, white shirts and black pants and a helmet.

True I forgot about that ... my ex is a mormon ... i remember now they always did have those name tags on and never seen a female elder either. They won't come to someones house after 8pm either I think was the time.

Just tell them that you just converted to Satanism while letting a cigarette dangle from your lips & holding a beer, that should make them uncomfortable enough and never come back.

That's usually the Mormons, two young guys, neatly dressed, on bicycles or on foot.

JW's often (not always) are two women, not young, and in this area usually one black, one white, dressed more "mom-ish" than professional, carrying tote bags with their literature.

Men JW's go door-to-door sometimes but not nearly as often as the women.

Baptists (including me) also go door-to-door but not as aggressively. We respect do not solicit signs, we identify our affiliation immediately, and we will not return if requested not to. Normally, for a neighborhood visit we mostly knock on doors and just leave literature about our church, and only go into more conversation if the resident is willing. Most of our visits are follow-ups to people who have visited our church or are family members of our Christian school students, or have some other connection to the school or church. If we're having a special program, we do send out flyers to near-by neighborhoods. I think the main difference is we don't try to hide who we are or what we represent.

I don't know about that; they might enjoy the challenge. :giggle:

I find that they get more nervous when I bring out my Bible and quote Scripture to them. :)

The ones I encountered always drove a mini van that I think the church owned.

If the Mormons show up instead, maybe you can sell them some bicycles. ;)

Oh wow, that's the best idea ever. I think Derek should sell bikes to anyone who comes to his door. JW's, political campaigners, people selling coupon books, they all need bikes.

Oh lordie, a few years ago I had the JW keep stopping by. They were recruiting, and had heard I was deaf. They delibratly target dhh people. The last time they stopped by, I found an e-mail address, and basicly wrote a "look if you continue to stop by I will get a restraining order from the cops!" letter...Haven't heard back from them.
My friend is going through a strange neighbor who keeps insisting that she can bring my friend's son to Bible camp/ AWANA.

Yes, they'll either buy a bike or run away from a salesperson.

I haven't had anyone come to my door (of my current apartment) while I was there... yet!

Someone did come by and left a note in the door.

Now were gonna get about 50 people from AD and take turns going and knocking on your door and leave a note each day for 6 months :D

This is illegal, contact postmaster, they won't like it and will investigate them. It is because all mailbox, regardless who paid for remains property of US Postal service. They have strict regulation when it comes to mailboxes.

BTW, if JW does that, they are breaking the law! TSK TSK TSK!

i shall check out regulations here...in NZ...

Thankfully I do not answer the door. I know there are both JW and Mormons that go door to door around here. I am sure there are other I have just never taken notice. I've only answered the door once and I was too young to understand what was going on. -Shrugs-

Other old thread was JW story...

http://www.alldeaf.com/deaf-products-technologies/110771-i-need-quick-help-police-calls.html

My old topic:
When I was younger I visited over my friend's house. I noticed his mother invited JW team for help her son's behavior as mom want him to change life cuz, he is troublemaker too much. and then, JW turned look at me and smile. I said like WTH....

They visited over my home while I fix my car. I was upset I'm too busy. I found out my friend's mother did send my address to JW where I live...

They offer me a free God DVD and free bible books...

They offer me go out meeting deafies at pizza...

I felt so harassment. I told them Get ****ing out of my ****ing freak life! I don't want a ****ing brainwashing! Go to ****ing Hell! They gasped and left. no more visit me again. Whew, I felt so free.
