remember Edsel???

Hmm, you gave me a new movie that I would have to watch. I'm always into car movies. I have heard of Tucker. I imagine that it was too much to make and lacked in sales.
No, it wasn't too much to make. It was just hard to make as it was their first vehicle to make and they had just gotten started. The factory was shut down due to trial. The trial went on too long that even when they were found not guilty, the damage was done and they couldn't re-open. Over 30 were made before the factory was shut down. Some workers helped build the remaining cars bringing the total to 50 by the time the trial was over.

The same thing happened with the DeLorean (the time traveling car from Back to the Future). He was arrested on drug trafficking charges and found not guilty due to entrapment. Because of this trial, the company went bankrupt.

The edsel, named after a ford son, was a good car. But it was the laughing stock of america because of the "horse collar" grille. In that era there were really wild designs, like the tail fins on some cars. So the edsel just dies from shame since it wasn't cool in those years.

sadly was a very mis understood society which back then know next to shit about "Horsepower"!

come to think of it...

I remember that news during the height of drug war. It was designed to reduce drug flow, but proved failed and did more harm than good. It was government corruption that damaged DeLorean business dearly. Guess what? Government got away with it, ain't it fair? I don't think so. There are a lot things that people don't know what government did and got away with damages.

If you were innocent and caught, you gotta to pay legal fee to protect you and once you are cleared, you STILL owe legal fees not government, where government should have pay for the damages to play it fair. Sad!

That's what happened with Tucker.

Rumor has it that it was the "Big Three" (Ford, General Motors, & Chrysler) that feared competition from Tucker and wanted him out of the picture. So, they paid big money to have Tucker "investigated" knowing that he wouldn't be able to get back on his feet regardless of the outcome of the trial.

MGT That a car with big balls.i saw 1972 one this week i just drooled watching it with horse power gummer.
i remember the delorian fiasco him getting busted prison and like them all became born again christian...the Stag he should gone to prison for that alone awful car

If you remember them, they were very poorly produced. Not many of them were sold. Now they're collector cars. Go figure!!!

I took those pictures while I was on the road. Enjoy them!!!

Body design are fucking ugly! No wonder it got poor produced.

Hey Derek: Saw this on the side of the road for sale, just had to stop by and check it out. Talk about a trip down memory lane....

I thought they were cool back in the '70's.....I liked the last year the best ('79).

This one has some hacked parts and lots of bodywork done. Interior is crappy.

How much does this guy want?.....$3500......he is dreaming.

It looks badass and I would buy it if it's manual.

I hate to say it, the Edsel is ulgy as a baboons rear end.

The Chevy Bel Air is nicer!

Yup, greedy big 4, don't forget AMC

Right, remember they were trying to break the record from the first draw on board to end of production in just 12 months. I am not sure if it still holds the record. It takes 3-5 years from beginning of drawing board to end of assembly line. Ford have skipped a lot of testing and ignored some of questions raised in QA. Back then QA was low in priority. Not anymore.

Why someone voted designer's crap design in first place?

I understand it's safety issue due bad processing.

At that time, Honda Civic was a gas saver, none of big 4 have vehicles that is gas saver during oil crisis. Most of the cars made by big 4 were gas guzzler, and HUGE! Ford scrambled trying to build a gas saver vehicle, made it smaller, lighter, etc to increase MPG in hope to kill competitors like Honda and Toyota, in other word Ford is in hurry to get profit back, major mistake for them. If you look at Ford Pinto make years, and compare to 70's oil crisis, you will understand. Honda was the first to make car more fuel efficient than any other makes, I believe. Mainly, it has to do with marketing. Yes, Ford learn lesson.

AMC was the worst when it comes to fuel economy, and is part reason why they file bankruptcy and sold to Chrysler. Chrysler scrapped most of models, and kept few of em which is iconic CJ and Wagoneer.

Yup the famed CVCC engine in a 1975 Honda Civic.
