I'm trying to sell this machine.....

Yardman snowblower 10.5 HP

ONe customer was interested. He loaded up his trailer, drove one hour for the machine, and then offered $50 for it. I was very mad when he wrote down on a piece of paper "$50". I snagged that piece of paper from him and he walked away!! I don't care that he is an senior citizen and he hooked up trailer to his truck to check it out.

IF he wanted to offer $50, why would he just not ask me before going all this trouble of loading up trailer and driving an hour each way?

Why do people thinks that just because they came to see what I have for sale that it's ok to low ball me in person and they may get it?

The loss is really his. He spent money for gas and assumed you would take his silly offer. Now he goes home and you still have your snowblower to sell.

Wirelessly posted (sent from a smartphone. )

Seafoam it! Sounds like carbeurator issues. It shouldn't stall when going in gear.

I asked $120 and just sold it for $120 so I'm happy. I am also happy that I let that first person know how upset I was with him.

People want something for nothing!...Had the same problem when I tried to sell my Cocktiels (birds) before...This guy came over with a very small Parakeet cage....and I asked him if he had a bigger cage for the birds? He said, No, I'll keep them in here....and give you $50 for the birds...(I had asked for $100), since they were Lutino's....but specifically noted they were to be in a Cocktiel cage....anyhow....I told him "NO way!...You're not taking my birds to live in that small cage!" And I was enraged at the thought he could be so callous!...

He sort of *smirked* and went out the door...it was my opinion he was gonna breed the birds and ignore their well-being!...So cruel...

I kept my birds...and won't sell them.

Screw lowballers. I hate them. I had the same problem when selling my truck. My asking price was already about 500$ below Bluebook value, but I kept getting all these lowlifers with "how low will you sell it? Ah, well, I only have 1000$ blah blah blah." They tried all sorts of "I'm a poor student" or "I just lost everything in a divorce" crap. Is that my problem? No.

I eventually sold it for a few hundred less than what I wanted, but that was just because it was taking up space at my friend's house and I was living in a different state.

Good on you for holding out. You should not feel bad at all that some old geezer got mad because you wouldn't let him screw you over.

Are you sure you weren't too fast, too hot?
Looks like he wanted to haggle.
You say 150, he says 50.You laugh and say 140, he probably says 60.
Then you say sorry you won't go lower than ... .

and if he gets mad because he traveled all this way for nothing- everyone else is right - nobody made him - his own mistake before checking the price with you.

A for you - no need to get all hot- this is the way how pple deal used sales.

Fuzzy

I was mad because he knew that he was getting a great deal at $120 and yet, he low balled me. I've always figured that if someone gives me a good deal to NOT haggle. It would be rude. If someone was to sell me a $200 snowblower for $120, I would take it. I would not haggle. If someone was trying to sell me a $200 machine for $200, then obviously, I would try to haggle.

There will always be people hoping to get a better deal even if they already got the best deal possible.

Just stick firm to your price and if they keep trying to haggle, let them know it's your final price, take it or leave it. They can't force you to go lower so why worry? It's their problem, not yours.

This is the second thread you have made regarding going nuts on lowball offers. I'm getting sick of hearing it.

Heehee, you wouldn't like me very much then - lowballing is the only way I roll, as I have brought many Craigslist items over the years, West Elm furniture, Jenn Air appliances, etc. The man took a stab at offering $50, you refused, no harm no foul. You wouldn't believe the number of sellers who would just accept the $50 for various reasons.

Let's review the first rule of our free market: your for sale item is only worth what people are willing to pay for it. But luckily for you, your patience for the right buyer paid off.

Well, the link is down so I can't see how much you were asking, but I don't understand why you are upset. The guy was just looking out for his own interest same as you. He figured he could get a good deal and he tried for it, there is no shame in that.

Did you put best offer in the post? Did you state final on the price?

You're going to die young if you let all that little stuff stress you out. Maybe you should take an anger management course.

Yes, getting so angered over a $70 difference in sale price is not a good thing.

When I sold my stuff on craigslist, I got rid of them as lowest price as possible. I just wanted it out of here. Quite a few lowballed on me, I told them nicely no that is the offer I can put on.

You don't really have to get angry if he offered you $50 for it. You could have just offered him $80, then he will go down and accept the offer like maybe $65? It's just a piece of junk snowblower that doesn't run properly.

He will get the message, oh that guy is really angry and I will never come back and buy from him again. If you are selling a lot of stuff, good luck.

Yeah, aren't people supposed to haggle a little? On all those pawn shop or picker reality shows, the buyer starts off offering half of the asking price?

If he really wanted $150, list a price of $300?

I'm not so sure about that as it seems to me that that'd prolong the perception
