Why won't my hyperlinks open?

If I click on an email link, or a link on a website, all I get is a blank page. This has been happening for a couple weeks. I've searched online for a resolution but none have worked. I'm getting very discouraged.

I think it might be related to my trying different web browsers. Apparently they don't like each other and inflict revenge for my unfaithfulness. :giggle:

show us one link that is showing you a blank page

Was this taken out of a outlook or a email client software?

All of them are. The only way I can open anything is to copy and paste the shortcut into the address box.

when you click on link in email... and it opens up a browser... did it put the link itself in URL section or is it blank?

The address doesn't change, and the browser tab opens up totally blank. Nothing on the tab address, and nothing on the tab page. Pure whiteness.

hmm.... I'm stupefied :(

did you install any new program recently? and it could be antivirus or ad-block or one of those security programs that prevent links from emails

No.

Same old security stuff that I've had for years; I even turned off the pop-up blocker.

It's not just the emails. It's search engine links also.

I'll attempt it again tomorrow. I'm too sleepy now. Have to get up early.

I do get blank hyperlinks sometimes... what works for me is to clear out the old cookies and caches on Safari. Then the blank hyperlinks will works again.

First, I would make sure the actual hyperlink works by copying and pasting it manually into the browser that has the problem. Second, I would ask if you are only having this problem with mail? Can you click on a link in an open browser and get another page? Finally, what browser are you using? It might be that the page is using updated html and the browser needs to be updated.

I doubt it is any software you installed. It is more likely you have a problem with your computer, possibly a virus that hijacks the pages. You should download hijack this and see if something is causing problems with your registry. It's an advanced program, but it can help you find things that are wrong.

Read this article before you install it and see if you can understand how to use it.

ONe more thing, try cleaning out your browser cache.

It could be a problem in the email itself. Some programs recognize certain text as URL and automatically convert them to links. (This happens on phones too. Some text are recognized as URLs or phone numbers, and convert them to clickable links.) Yet, in your case... the email forgot to include the actual link when it converted it to link.

Can it be the browser? My SO was trying to play an online game (Evony, if anybody's familiar with that) and it doesn't seem to run well in XP. If he opens it up, it gives him a blank screen. His laptop has Windows 7 and the Evony game runs perfect there.

Evony is a browser based game, so yes, the version of the browser could make a difference. I would go to the Evony web site and look at what the system requirements are for that game.

He no longer tries to play it on Windows XP. He just plays off his laptop (Windows 7) now. So it's not an issue.

I think it's the browser because it happens with email AND web pages and searches.

I think Internet Explorer might be the culprit. Possibly related to the default browser setting.

Did that, with all the links. They all worked.

It's not just the email. It's all links.

I was using Mozilla FF until the latest version started causing problems. So I switched back to IE 9.

I agree.

I've done scans with the regular security softfware, and everything is clean. I haven't tried hijack this yet.

I did that, and rebooted. No change.

I get the blank screen, too. However, I'm using Windows 7.

Fireforx just upgraded to version 7 so give that a try and see what happens. I'm leaning towards a registry entry problem.
