So after being stuck on the night shift ( I work at a gas station and my boss is aware that I prefer to work during the days, in the fish bowl as I call it) and a issue with a customer I try to apologize and explain to the customer that I couldn't hear him through the glass and I was hard of hearing (because its easier to explain to the hearies that way, until now). He kept getting pissy, finally said I was deaf and he gave me the most messed up face and said "You just made my night worse by telling me your deaf." Worst. Shift. Ever. People are just vile.... I'm so angry!

I can't imagine doing your job, I would fail with every customer, you're doing great just by be able to do it at all. Well done, I hope you get your day shifts back soon. :)

some people are just impossible to understand. I bet they get that grumpy and short tempered because it happens to them all the time (not just with you). I'm sorry you have to deal with idiots like that.

If I were you, I would document with time and date, keep tally and you can build good case against scumbag who discriminates you. The more document you got, the stronger the case you got. Wish you best of luck.

What an a-hole.

I agree with the documentation idea, it would be smart. Write down time, dates, who you communicated with, what you said, their response etc.

I'd also encourage you to have another conversation with your boss, and tell him here is a perfect example of why the night shift doesn't work.

Try to brush off that idiots remark. He's clearly unhappy with his life and wants to bring others down with him. Try not to let him get to you.

Next time bring a voice recorder of some sort. Some smartphones have that. That's one of the proof if someone gets pissy at you for no real good reason.

I do not think a hearing person would be able through a thick window that good! The guy sound like jerk looking to pick a fight!

Lady, I would not let anybody say that to me without a response back!...The saying at most business establishments that "the customer is always right" surely doesn't apply here....I would have told him to go "F" himself and to have a shitty day!

Again, ur hearing is worsening (from ur prior posts). This job you have isn't for anyone with a severe hearing problem. Perhaps ur bos is waiting on you to quit, rather than to fire or lay you off?...Maybe he's afraid of a discrimination suit?

All in all, I would find another job. Each and everyday you are gonna be shouted or insulted at. Rather than having to go thru something like this every day/night, and lowering ur self-esteem, making you feel bad/angry and upset....I would look for another job that does not require so much interaction with hearing people.

That's just me, tho'!

terrible but you should know that "lying" just made it worse. You said you're hard-of-hearing.... and then deaf. I would get annoyed off too if employee lied to me and made everything difficult for me. because after all.... it's a selfish world we live in but we're a paying customer and we pay for service that we demand. It's no different with me trying to communicate with an employee who can't speak English well.

consider this a learning experience on dealing with people because hey - you asked for it, right? You asked to work in daytime and that means more interaction with people so just try your best to try to make next encounter easier but don't lie.

Does your job have a video recorder?

If the guy had threaten her she may have a case , I would not made a big fuss over this with the boss. When you work with the public you have to deal with all kinds of jerks and you do not want to look you can't handle it.

More to show that LadySolitary did nothing wrong.

It would show that LadySolitary can't do her job as expected which can lead to employer letting her go. or switch her back to night shift. It is expected that in her job especially during daytime - there will much more people of all kinds.

So.....

Yep, you need thick skin for the job.

or maybe she should do some work at... dang I forgot the name of this famous food joint - a bus where it's famous for cursing - both waitresses and customers.

I saw it in Food Network Channel. It went like this -

Customer: "where's my fawking food???"
Waitress: "Shut the fawk up!!!!!!!!"

:)
