How are people dealing with the Heat WAVE!??

Ok, how many of you guys were complaining about the cold & snow just a few months ago?

Well, at least talking about the weather is better than talking about <fill in the blank>. :D

Yeah, that is why I put this thread up so we could have something to talk about that was not so heavy .

for Californians... anything below 75 deg is cold to them
for me - anything below 55 deg is cold to me.

I want my 70's! Fall, where are you? :mad2:

IN Kansas.. Anything below 30's is cold to them. I've seen few people still wears short and t shirt when it's 45 out!!! :cold: To me 40's is cold to me.

I read newspaper story about guy who work in Icehouse in downtown Kansas City Missouri. He said that he wears jacket in there eveyday and when he head home when weather hit 100's he turned on AC full blast and it's too hot for him. He set temp in his house 55 degree which is cool to him. If it were a temperature like this in my house, I won't be able to sleep at all. I would be :cold:

I do not mind the weather being in 40's , I just put on coat if I get cold. I think I hate the heat more than the cold! the worst part about winter is the ice and having to shovel snow!

It all depend how deep basement are in ground. If basement are deep in ground, will be nice and cool even it may be a bit cold in there during very hot day. I slept in my brother's room in basement and I slept so well and it's dark and a bit cold while outside was hoovering 100's out.

My house basement is nice and cooler than 1st floor. I put insulation all around the basement and put sheetrocks in. Once I finished basement, I would be napping nice and cool on futon

Our basement is hot in the summer! My parents house had a nice cool basement! And we would go down there to get cool. I took a nap and when I when downstairs I saw this head looking through window in the door and I jumped! It was my poor niece, she when to the basement to cool off, and my mom saw that the door was unlocked and locked it and when out ! My niece was stuck in the basement until I saw her head in the window! She waited a hour to get out of the basement!!

Live near the ocean and we get the breeze. Hence, my username! :giggle:

It's been hot, but thats not unusual for us. We're in the 90s with indices of over 100. However, w/the breeze, it's bearable like RR said.

'Twas hot today. My dogs have been chomping on ice all day, and I just try to lay down and spread out and stay cool. I've been thinking about filling up the kiddie pool and lying down in it, but it's too much effort in the heat. Sometimes I'll take cool showers in the afternoon.....

Heatwave was not new to me. Back in 80's, Heatwave was worst than 2011.

I did not mean as in first heat wave ever in centuries but for this year. I am aware there have been other heat waves before. We have had summers that were much cooler than normal due to severe volcanic eruptions prior to these summers.

I've done that.
I did it once when we were camping. A bunch of family's would get together for a weekend camping trip each year. Everyone headed off to either a water park, the lake, or just hiking. I stayed at the camp (lazy bum that I am ). Even though I was in the shade of the trees, I got hot enough to head over to the campground showers and took a quick cold "shower".

The overnight lows in Florida last night was in the 60's something about Tropical Storm Bret making it cooler for Florida. :) High is 92.. which is typical.

Wishes I never moved to Iowa in the first place. I guess I was excited to be with my gf. We have been together for almost 2 years now. The reason why I said that because of the heat wave is worse one in my experience. It makes 110 degrees with dry heat in California sound like a child's play.

I am no expert but did you guys check with Vet to see if its safe for dogs to eat ices? I read somewhere on site saying no. but i dont see any medical or doctor sites yet. If i were planning to get a dog. I will check with vet about ices.

I just called my vet's office and I was told it was fine to give Marty ice cubes on a hot day!
