What brand did you have for the hot flat iron?

I am seriously thinking about buying a hot flat iron that is expensive.

I hope that the hot flat iron would have warrenty for a lifetime.

My girlfriend said, "buy CHI." so what about you gals? :wiggle:

My hair is very stubborn to stay curls, not even bother to be straight after putting the flat or straight hair product and the hot flat iron (cheap one). my hair still got curls anyway! :mad2:

Flat irons don't get rid of curls permanently, no matter how expensive they are. Each time you shampoo, you have to start over again.

:giggle: I know I am soooo desperate for setting my hair straighten. seriously my hair does not have heavy curls or straight but I have wave hair that looks like a white trash gal. I had always have bad frizzy in the humidity. :tears: I am sick of it! lol Oh yes I have a major cowlick in the right front of my top head.

Why not buy a chemical straightener? I did that when I was a teenager and my hair was straight for about 3 months I believe.

There's not too much you can do about the humidity except to use a conditioner that will resist the moisture. It's also important to get a hair cut and style that will minimize the curliness. Be sure to not put too much thick hair into each section that you flat iron. More thin sections take longer but they last longer.

My hair waves, too. Every so often I let it grow a little longer but then I have to flat iron it. So, most of the time I keep it short so the waves aren't a problem. I shampoo, condition, blow dry, and finger style with a little styling product. I put a tiny bit of shiny gel on my white bang pieces for shimmer and to keep the pieces separated into points.

They call it relaxer now. :giggle:

Yes, the change is permanent but the new growth has to be done, like you said, about every three months, depending how fast the hair grows.

Relaxer works better for curly hair than wavy hair. Sometimes a flat iron is still needed for the really smooth look.

Iron flat? what? I don't have one nor do I need it. Using iron flat is time consuming. Ugh. I just put on my soft rollers on after shower when I go to bed.

Wait, wait, wait, what is all this anti-curlism nonsense?? If you've got curly hair, love it, revel in it, get a cut that shows it off!!

I was a miserable, always-trying-to-straighten my hair girl until I finally got smart and decided to work with what I've got instead of fighting it all the time. WAY easier and less time-consuming.

Get yourself a copy of "Curly Girl: The Handbook." "[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Curly-Girl-Handbook-Lorraine-Massey/dp/076115678X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310140308&sr=8-1]Amazon.com: Curly Girl: The Handbook (9780761156789): Lorraine Massey, Michele Bender: Books[/ame]"

The main thing she points out is that a good haircut is absolutely essential.

Products I personally like: John Frieda Collection, Frizz-Ease Hair Serum and Frizz-Ease Dream Curls Curl-Perfecting Spray.

The serum really cuts down the frizz, even in North Carolina heat and humidity, and the spray brings out nice, un-frizzy waves.

A Bedhead product called "Superstar" (comes in a purple-ish, curvy bottle) is good too, for volume. Works well if you want to blow-dry your hair with a round brush for shaping.

Don't bother with a flat iron at all, is my advice. It won't work for long, it takes way too much time, and the minute any humidity hits your hair, zzzzt, here comes the frizz again, anyway. Forget about it and love yourself the way you are!

Just a bit of advice from one curly-head to another.

Pssssttt....it's not only for "ladies"...my son loves straight hair (he's 14)....his hair is very wavy, actually it's beautiful!...But not to him...he's uses the iron also....His hair is shoulder length....and with all the time he spends on his hair before going to the mall, etc., I'm pretty sure he's gonna get tired of it after awhile....And get a haircut!....(That's what I'm hoping for).

As for the "cow lick"...I've got one too on the side of my hair. I just comb and hold it straight down while I blow dry. It helps a lot.

You got it right. I tried the relaxer and it didn't work out well. I have plenty of good conditioners. Nothing work. Humidity is poisoning my hair!

I tried many different hair products, hot flat iron, and blow dry. Sometimes I have to leave my hair alone without touching so it won't get dry up or breakabale. you know?

someone gave me and i googled it up. I dont know if it s good or not. since its free. i dont care as long as i only use it on sunday where i dont see many people i know like im hiding. its called O'Pro organic protein (olive oil tea tree vitamin E. Leave in conditioner curl vitalizer. I think most black people use it. But it says all types of hair so i use up it to see if it helps a little or not. so far i dont see any improves. lol

I have John Frieda Collection, Frizz-Ease Hair Serum and Frizz-Ease Dream Curls Curl-Perfecting Spray. They only work for me if there is no humidity. Humdity is poisoning my hair.

I wish i could have strong curls but its waves i hate it so much!! its mixed wave and few of curls and frizzy. ugh only when it comes to humdity. :( thats why i decide to let my hair long and let my bang longer too. I ll find out from there if it looks better when it comes to humidity. :/

I have a stubbornly cowlick in the front in the right in the corner of my head. I have to use the blowdry to keep it under the control. ugh!

Well...you can either...(1) Shave your head...(G.I. Jane).or (2) Buy a wig.....(Dolly Parton).

I have those "bad hair days" too...even smack my head with a hair brush! :giggle:...when my hair will not do what I want it to do.

Pulling it straight back into a pony tail, sometimes into a "bun"...Many, many times I've wanted to "shave my head"!

 That is why i often cut off in the front as a bang but i want to let the front hair grow to look better. I love bang but it sometimes does not good on me on the bad day. oh well LOL

I have to keep trying for the rest of my life to keep my hair under the control. eh.

I don't know about others but my problem isn't curly hair--it's wavy hair that grows in all directions and at different rates. If my hair was evenly curly all over my hear I wouldn't mind. My hair has strong wave patterns that go in all directions. One side curves forward, and grows slower than the other side which curves backwards. I look like a Cocker spaniel. :giggle: My bangs, if not kept thinned and trimmed, grow into a thick S curve. My back hairline grows into Elvis duck tails. That's why I keep it short and wispy now. If I go too long between haircuts (more than four weeks), then I need the flat iron to give direction to my hair and take out the thick humps. That's just a temporary fix.

Reba's hair sounds like what I have. Its so hard!!! I refuse to cut my hair off to have a short hair like my mom, aunts and goes on. I will cut my hair when I hit over age but i dont know yet. I am 41 now. LOL my mom, aunts and grandma had short hair when they were in 30's. I dont want that. I am not ready.

One good thing about always having bangs is that I have no forehead wrinkles even though I'm 60 years old.

haha I have a very lightly thin forehead wrinkles but it does not look too bad. My mom taught me how not to move too much in my forehead. I told her I try my best due to my ASL and facial expression. She knows that. ha

Y'all are making me laugh!

Curly hair, straight hair, wavy hair - it's funny how we're never happy with what we've got, and always want it to be something else!

The best you can do is keep it real long, blunt cut, no layers, so that it will be real heavy. The weight will hold down the waves a bit. Trim regularly to keep it even. Learn to do interesting braids and up-dos. Please don't resort to big clips, scrunchies and no-style pony tails.

Long hair is fun to decorate with cute little clips and accessories. I've seen some young women weave in a single long feather, or one strand with beads that looks cool.
