This reminds me... My best friend is marrying an Indian. Think Shaadi? And his family certainly does not approve because my best friend is a white woman. They wanted him to marry a "nice Indian girl." His family threatened to disown him when they get married. They're not invited to the wedding, well they are, but it's highly doubtable they'd come because it's a controversy between his and her families right now. My best friend's family is angry with his family for not being accepting of interracial marriages. IMO, the couple is perfect for each other, no matter what color or religion.
So, we're still fighting this kind of thing nowadays. I agree, the younger generation is more accepting and tolerant of others differences. It's the family issues and older generations that make everything an obstacle for us. I'm glad the Prom Queen in this article made a wonderful milestone.
