Wrong to link OBL with Geronimo

Just watched Obama's interview... amazing how the event unfolded and not even most people in WH had an idea of what's going on with his plan. Not even his family knew. And it was just a gut decision and he made it with success.

And he did say that geronimo is a reference to bin laden but seemed to be unaware of the controversy.

Here's the transcript:

President Obama on the mission to kill bin Laden - 60 Minutes - CBS News

Geronimo was a code name , because "Geronimo" has nothing to do with OBL . they couldn't very well use " the bad guy" for his code name... it would be a dead give away .

so, they use some thing that no one would guess.

First of all, it's Native American not Indian. This group of people has the right of self-determination. (Just like I don't want to be called "hearing impaired.")

you can be Native American if you want to but, I was born an American Indian and will be an Indian unto i die . Thebes to much PC, BS as it is

They could have easily picked another word or name. Often they use fictional names or animal names. He could have been called Top Banana, Turnip Seed, Queen Bee, Turkey in the Straw, Rosebud, or Toast.

That is what we were taught, but to really think the word Indian is really from India nothing to do with North America. Columbus or any other early explorers made the mistake to think that Natives were from India and thought the explorers were in India. Boy, the explorers are surely dumb back then.

I would suggest to say that you were born in what tribe or clan to make specific way to show that you are not from India.

That is why I would prefer "Native American" or "Cree" or "Anishinaabe" (Ojibwe word for Ojibwe people). :cool2:

I would use the appropriate tribe name, if possible. The point is that a person gets to define herself.

My eyebrows raised when read that they called OBL Geronimo. The controversy wasn't mentioned, and learned about it later.

They can make airplanes and all that high tech, but didn't think about the controversy with Geronimo. It's... military intelligence?

If names didn't mean anything, then they should have called OBL "Christus", "The american", "The Pope", "Mother Theresa", "Mickey" or "Obama". Funnier and easier to remember.

Huh? I'm thinking "Mickey," as in "that's a real Mickey Mouse outfit there..."

Also one of my husband's favorite phrases is "taking a mickey," which is to jokingly insult someone or make fun of them.

lol I know. I was just yanking your chain. I was referring to a racist slur for an Irish people - "Mick"

Oh, that's right, yeah, it is. Not in such common usage these days, is it?

Saw the same interview. I don't know if he was unaware of the controversy, or just ignoring it because it is so innane.

Ahh, a reasonable person. How refreshing!:ty:

No, it's all from "The Princess Bride." Love that movie.

Sorry, back to topic...

I was more on topic than you were. Tonto was played by Jay Silverheels, a Native American. I guess a lot of my jokes fall flat but that is okay, I will keep on keeping on. :P
