Are you sick of highly paid teachers?

Teachers' hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work 9 or10 months a year! It's time we put things in perspective and pay them for what they do - babysit!

We can get that for less than minimum wage.

That's right. Let's give them $3.00 an hour and only the hours they worked; not any of that silly planning time, or any time they spend before or after school. That would be $19.50 a day (7:45 to 3:00 PM with 45 min. off for lunch and plan-- that equals 6 1/2 hours).

Each parent should pay $19.50 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children. Now how many students do they teach in a day...maybe 30? So that's $19.50 x 30 = $585.00 a day.

However, remember they only work 180 days a year!!! I am not going to pay them for any vacations.

LET'S SEE....

That's $585 X 180= $105,300

per year. (Hold on! My calculator needs new batteries).

What about those special

education teachers and the ones with Master's degrees? Well, we could pay them minimum wage ($7.75), and just to be fair, round it off to $8.00 an

hour. That would be $8 X 6 1/2 hours X 30 children X 180 days = $280,800 per year.

Wait a minute -- there's

something wrong here! There sure is!

The average teacher's salary

(nation wide) is $50,000. $50,000/180 days

= $277.77/per day/30

students=$9.25/6.5 hours = $1.42 per hour per student--a very inexpensive baby-sitter and they even EDUCATE your kids!) WHAT A DEAL!!!!

Make a teacher smile; repost this to show appreciation for all educators.

Saw this on FB. So, where is my salary?

:laugh2: Perfect. And try finding a babysitter anywhere under $15 an hour, much less $3 an hour.

Where is my salary? I was CHEATED! lol

Luckily, I haven't had to pay for a babysitter yet and now the kids are old enough I won't have to. I remember getting $1-$2 an hour when I was babysitting, but that was in the 70's.

Wirelessly posted (sent from a smartphone. )

Lol, good math alternatives lol

Thanks for everything you and all teachers do, Shel. My mother is a third grade teacher, so I know just how "fair" a teacher's salary matches up to the amount of work they do. If I had my way, you'd all be living like kings and queens. :)

I once made $20 babysitting one night when I was 13 in 1994. But that was because I babysat SIX kids all at one time for a couple that I went to church with, and they weren't behaving at all that night once it was time for them to bed. As soon as I said "time to go to bed, kids" they immediately wreaked chaos for me and ran around and making messes and throwing things and stuff. I thought they would be well behaved because their parents were very religious and are very well-disciplined with their kids. I told the parents how terribly behaved the kids were. They felt bad and gave me $20. There was proof of how their kids behaved badly - the home was a mess thanks to the kids and the kids were out of bed when their parents came home at 2 am. Their dad took me home and the mom dealt with the kids. I usually made $5 babysitting.

You should had gotten more than $20 for babysitting 6 brats!

My aunt in Colorado is a third grade schoolteacher and she had to support three kids on her low salary (their dad - My uncle - was a deadbeat dad and they were divorced). My cousins are now all grown up though. I appreciate what she does for third graders. Being a teacher is certainly not a easy job, I bet!

My sister is a 5/6th grader teacher and she can not afford a new roof on her home. Duh.

It has always made me very sad that the people who prepare our young for the future of mankind make so little, while people who play games for a living make millions of dollars in just a few years.

Yeah, I know...athletes will only be able to play for so long, until their bodies have been beaten so badly they must retire at a very young age. Well I say boo hoo!!! That's something an athlete must take into consideration and prepare for accordingly, putting money away for their own health care out of their salaries, just like everyone else must do. Sports injuries are just an on the job hazzard, and if athletes don't want to accept that, they should consider becoming teachers!

(steps down off her soap box!) :giggle:

I'm curious.

What do any of you believe is a fair salary for teachers?

Is that amount more or is it less than what teachers in your location are earning?

Would you be willing to pay higher taxes in order to give pay raises to your local teachers?

One thing I can say, even though I am not a teacher except for home schooling my own kids, teachers do not get paid enough in actual salary. Not for what they have to put up with. More and more, parents don't know or want to be parents and expect the teacher to mold, shape and teach their kids how to be proper, law-abiding, courteous, helpful, whatever students and later, adults. More and more children are going to school hungry. More and more teachers are expected to but the school supplies for their students, classrooms and such.

Teachers are required to keep getting more and more education "behind their belts" as they say, just to keep up with this NCLB crap. Then, to add insult to injury, for the last few years, more and more schools are adopting an education program that only teaches the student what is needed to take their statewide testing. You know, Florida has the FCAT, Missouri has the MAP, I'm not sure what other states call theirs. I feel really bad for the teachers of today and can totally empathize with their feelings and demands.

I could not tell you what would be a good salary or a fair salary, since they all have different educational background and levels. In my opinion, those dedicated teachers of the deaf or any special needs teachers should be paid more. They, in my opinion, have to work harder to get or keep their child at grade level. Most public school teachers don't even try to make sure their students are on grade level. I'm speaking about those kids who have no special needs at all. You know those kids. My son is one. All his 4th grade teacher was worried about, was students not kicking chairs of the student in front of them, or the students who are so bored with the lesson that they drum their fingers on the desk. They get sent to the office for that. During my son' 4th grade year, he had almost no classwork to bring home because the teacher was so stressed out by the students. Everything was sent home. Needless to say, that teacher is no longer a teacher. She quit after one year of teaching. She now works for a factory making toothbrushes. Makes more money at the factory.

Like I say, this is my personal opinion. I applaud Shel90 and those others who are teachers. My hat is off to each of you for what you do.:h5:

Teachers should have one of the highest paying jobs in the country. Our job is THAT important.
