Does AD need an Audism policy?

Actually, Jung only identified 8 types. The 16 Personality Factor model was built on the theories of several psychologists.

I have a good understanding of the 16 factor model, and have been trained to administer the Myers-Briggs. I am a Ph.D in clinical psychology.

yes that is correct. Yes, I'm aware of you being clinical psychology from reading your forum. My wife also a clinical therapist. MBTI is useful tools for me, as manager of IT.

I Think we are getting off the point with this thread...LOL...let stop here!

So, you have been specifically trained to adminsiter and interpret the test?

Odd then, that you would make the statement that the test was "invented by Jung." The training seminar given by the company that trains clinicians to do the testing and interpret the result specifically addresses the history and development of the test. The completion of that seminar is required before the test can even be purchased for administration.

Oh, well. This thread is not about 16PF tests. Just saying that it is dangerous indeed to make assumptions that one result is closer to a Mensa category than another. The test is not interpreted in that way, nor was it ever intended to make judgements such as that.

Back on topic.

ASL doesn't have a great deal to do with audism. It is just one of the ways it manifests.

You've said it better than I could have. There are quite a few prelingual deaf here who are not familar with ASL and yet I'd think they'd be offended too.

Oh, understand that. There are more to it, in term of the whole picture of each group. MBTI are more of binary choice. So...me zipped..I'll stop.

Exactly. I am offended as a hearing person who has a family member that is a full member of the community. I am offended not just for him, but for all the people who makes up the community of which he is a part.

What happened to the 'Freedom of speech'?

Freedom of speech is a right we all have but it can also have consequences.

even if someone did actually say "all deaf people should be forced to get CIs" (which has never happened) how can that possibly be compared to yelling fire? Who is it making unsafe? The fire exception is for the public safety.

Mods point of view:

You guys would go nuts at the number of emails I get a day from this website of members fighting with one another back and forth back and forth. If we were to ban EVERYONE that had a strong opinion about something then this site would have no one on it. Everyone here has a strong opinion. Some people, here have Audist views without knowing it, this was mentioned before and I think it is simply because they are uneducated about what an Audist was exactly.

The problem is not everyone is going to see eye to eye on THIS and what exactly an Ausist is because for some reason everyone seems to have their own definition of what they think one is and what consists of trolling and flaming.

Here is the fact of the matter here on AD. NOT EVERYONE is going to LIKE everyone and their point of view. Here is the other problem here, when some read things they dont like they automatically decide they have to CHIME in and say what is on their mind. Instead of accepting the other persons point of view they YELL out THAT IS WRONG because you, yourself do not believe it to be correct.
SO what is an Audism????

Here ya go:
Audism is a term typically used to describe discrimination against deaf or hard of hearing people, although it could also be expanded to include anyone with a difference in hearing ability. This discrimination can occur in a number of forms in a range that includes both physical, cultural, and linguistic variants. Further complicating the issue is the existence of intra-group discrimination, which can either mimic the pathways of inter-group discrimination or take entirely new forms.

Everyone has a different point of view and we can't just run around banning everyone just because they think differently than the next person. And usually it is because they are unaware of what they are saying. Unfortunately there will always be the same fight on this subject as there will be on the CI discussion, or the Abortion discussion and even the religion discussion. You get a group together with this many people there are bound to be indifferences.
The problem is we mods have our work cut out for us when people fight with eachother constantly. And I will say it is usually the same people that do it here. SO, if you don't like someone or what they say or what they are about, IGNORE them. simple.

agreed.

One of the reasons i lost interest in posting here is the rampant arrogance of certain members. While we have some audists here, i see more disrespect from non-audists, which makes this site very unappealing.

Oh, and to answer pfh's original question....in other words, you want this site to be only open to people that were born deaf and remain deaf? Hoh, oral, hearing, and ci implantees do not qualify?

Thank you for expanding that definition to include not just the audism, but the ways it applies and manifests in real life situations.

You know, I just spent some time browsing some threads that I haven't had time to check out recently. I noticed that we also have several new members that are saying things like "Thank you, I am learning so much." and "I finally found a community where I belong" and several other positive things. This is really great. We sometimes get so focused on the negative few, because their opinions can do so much damage, that we forget to nurture those that are really learning about the culture here. I think the new members that are learning and happy to be taught what they did not know prior far outweigh the nastiness of the few.

Of course, one audist is still too many, IMO. LOL

We should count our blessings. Does anyone remember Deaflore? It was a Deaf Forum and the owner shut it down suddenly. Just saying.

Yes it is quite amazing when you think about it. I was thinking the same as I read through this thread last night. When I first came here I had so much to learn and so much I wanted to know. I have never been one to fight or argue for the sake of things. I read and read and I see the points of views. I could name who likes who here and who doesnt like who on this site. lol Someone who got in trouble the other day said to me "How would you know, you are never here." OH OH, just because I don't post a ton doesn't mean I am not here. I like to be behind the scenes. Plus, I dont think everyone realizes when they fight and push "report" it goes right to our emails which comes right to my phone!
BUT I love this place, I have learned so much in a few years. Its nice when new people can see THE GOOD that comes from here and not all the bad.
