Which gets more attention? Burning the Holy Bible or The Koran?

Yeah, the symbolism is very powerful re: fire vs, say, a shredder....

Or as opposed to flying pigs dropping beer kegs over the Mideast.....*slinking away.....*

As opposed to throwing it into a sewer pond?

ah... just like that several incidents documented by Red Cross at Gitmo Camp that the US guard desecrated Koran by throwing it into toilet? and having the guard dog carrying Koran in its mouth? and urinating on it? and bunch more?

yea several guards were dismissed.

Fire is also a more public and visible action, and usually a group activity.

they can simply step on it or urinate on it.

it's the act of destroying and desecrating it in any manner that makes it offensive.
Really? Don't you think that it has a lot to do with WHAT is being destroyed or desecrated? I cerntianly do. How can just "the act" be be considered offensive?

Or slapping the Koran with a sandal or shoe in which in their culture is an insult as liken to flipping the bird.

Nice way of omitting the rest of the quote, rendering the first sentence void.
I only included the section of your quote that I disagreed with. I agree with the remainder and omitting the rest doesn't render anything void. You said it has nothing to do with political correctness and my response was that it does have to do with political correctness which is supported further in the article itself.

What is the reason for political correction? Minorities, not PC itself. I'm siding with Soupmeister here.

I'm sure somebody could come up to a person and say,

"Do you see a Koran in your head?" Ok. You have that vision. Now, the Koran is on fire, do you see that? Ok. Now, why are you thinking about a burning Koran?"

So, is thinking about it just as bad?

I never paid attention to effigy burnings. An effigy burning is symbolic in that the person represented that is burned in effigy is "banished" from their lives.

Burning a koran/bible/torah in a public display is another symbolic gesture that means the koran/bible/torah would be banished from their lives. It is meant to be offensive to the party that holds the koran/bible/torah sacred.

If an atheist group decided to have a public gathering and burn any and all religious sacred texts, would it be as equally offensive? Atheists are minorities ....

Some people easily get their panties in a bunch.

Where I live, they wouldn't be a minority-- Christians are 40 percent, and non-religious is around 30 percent.

Don't atheists choose to burn the Bible over other equally-valid texts because it's representative of North America's largest religion?

So, an atheist burning a bible is justified in your opinion?

Not really, souggy. I'd say they go after what's easiest. And that is to burn the Bible, even if they're in North America. They're a bunch of hypocrites, too. But I could be wrong though. Show me atheists burning both the Bible and Koran at the same time and I'd be willing to concede that I was wrong.

Have you ever broken up with a bf/gf and burned their pictures?
