a slight tremor

5.5, wow, that's a pretty good jolt; wondering about Banjo now......also wondering about the building codes in that epicenter.....

Yep, felt it!

We live in an earthquake area on the East coast but I've never heard of any of the schools holding earthquake drills. They did debate closing a couple of the older schools because their buildings aren't constructed to earthquake resistant standards.

Wow, that's quite different from here. While I was still there, california schools do practice earthquake drills at least every other month for K-12. On real earthquake days, it is a free 1-2 hours recess outside until the teachers say it's ok to go back in.

That's a good question. I am going to find out about my kids school. In case what if we end up getting over 5.0. my kids schools will be over by this friday. today tomorrow and friday will be only half day. My kids are with the in laws after half day at school today.

how bad is it? 5 seconds or more?

Lasted around 15 seconds or so. I was at work when it happened. At first, the computer chair felt as if it was being rocked a bit. Then the computer monitor, the desk, everything started shaking. It was like being on a J-ELLO or an unstable ship.

It's just a weird experience to go through with. It was a very unsettling feeling though!

I found out that they do have a plan but I've never heard of anyone doing the drills. :dunno:

They've never had any drills at the college where I work.

Yeah. Perfect word for jello. i bet yours more stronger than mine. weird I got myself up on the right spot in the air for a second but itself moving was like 5 to 8 seconds. I knew it was NOT something that fell down and everyone got up and looking at each other. "what the hell" then i told them that i never had felt like a strong vibrant before. At first I thought the building was collasping, then a few minutes later everyone got announcemnt stating that was earthquake. i was kind of relieved but was in a shocking feeling because of that jello moving. I feel like it was heavy waves. Glad you guys are ok over there.

unsettling??? I think it's cool to experience it. I want to experience all kinds of Mother Nature's fury before I die.

Just live here for a year. Go to the red zones if you want.
You'll get used to it so much that it's just another "oh earthquake" facebook update. Can count on checking other sources when it's an quake, because everyone posts about it always.

Right, it was somewhat exciting to experience it. However, slightly unsettling at the same time because I wasn't sure what to expect.

Earthquakes can be unpredictable.

yeah now i get uneasy wondering if we will get more quakes on the way the next hours or next days? I do not mind if it were less than 15 seconds but NOT more than 5 minutes. it will not be uncool for me.

faster than news

so sad! so far... I've experienced hurricane (but not like Florida) and flood. My dad's done live volcano.

Where I live, we tend to be shielded from natural disasters. *knock the wood*
