I am thinking --

The one of several main reasons I dislike this country is because of it's negative reinforcement views..

Do you guys think there should be less negative reinforcement views in this country --

Example: "You should be fined for not doing this or that"

Another example: Instead of putting a sexual offender in prison - put her/him in rehabilitation until she/he is alright to be released?

Are you for this? Vote and discuss.

Mmmm.....

Am I wrong in the assumption that there has no answer to this means that people acknowledge there needs to be some change, but don't want to change?

negative reinforcement is the American way of dealing with the problems because it's about free choice and the consequence of the choice you choose.

If you chose to commit crime, then you either get fined or imprisoned for it. Simple as that.

Do the crime, do the time. I have no sympathy for recidivists. They victimize everyone else.

More negative reinforcement = more people in prisons = more tax dollars wasted...

Pretty much the same thing as not doing preventive medicine = expensive in long run

So, why not "rehabilitate" our criminals so we have less issues on hand?
Why not lessen work hours to reduce stress on many?

There is many ways to reduce issues, but none of them are being worked on (at an efficient pace, not at the speed of slug)

That's what I am looking at.

That I can understand.

How about other stuff, such as committing fraud?

federal prison? what you think why some of them ran away to other country or commit suicide? the most effective way to reduce white-collar fraud is a swift punishment.

I agree that the prison system lacks in rehabilitation.

In several cases they go back out and reoffend. Because they don't know any other way. So other words we are releasing a bunch of angry people that was locked up with other angry inmates. That never learned the skills to go back out in society to work. *that is another thing* no one wants to hire an ex con.

The list goes on and on.

So I agree.... more rehabilitating, less incarcerating.

Something gotta give.

Well that argument could go on forever.....

Could also be that the wrong message was sent with watered down sentences, cable tv,weights, basketball and internet. Maybe we should make prision so distasteful no one would want to return.

Some of those people actually live better lives in prision

Every time my friend gets out of prison he looks great. He looks like shit everytime he goes in. No drugs.

What's the alternative to incarcerating people who commit fraud? Rehabilitation and court-ordered restitution? I'd say people who commit fraud do so to support a lifestyle they wouldn't or couldn't by the usual means of employment. Thus, there will be little restitution because there won't be a means to pay it back. If ten million dollars is ripped off, how is a rehabilitated person going to pay that back? Someone will have to pay it back--whether it's insurance or whatever--and it costs everyone. It's not going to happen, so lock the offender up for ten years as a means to send a message.

Yet a lot of parents are forced to pay child support and they didn't even commit a crime in the first place, why can't fraudsters?

Sheriff Joe Arpaio has some interesting ideas about crime.
