Attn: Addressing some issues that has been going on.

Second suggestion won't work. Rarely one religious group agrees with another even within the same branch.

Kinda hard when one Church think they are the only true way out of all the denominations out there and go out of their way to prove that their view of the scriptures is the only right one, and bash others for it.

I think that it's odd that people who start threads think that they "own" the thread. I've never be on any other forum where this happens. Usually, people start threads about something that interests them and let the conversation develop.

I don't think that I own threads I start. I just start a thread and see if anyone wants to post. I may or may not respond to other people. The thread just develops as it will.

I think that the concept of "ownership" of threads is problematic and encourages aggressive behavior. The "owner" of a thread often has a preconceived idea about what should be posted on his tread, and he tends to tell people that they are off base or off topic. This prevents the free flow of ideas and conversation.

Corruption as result of being in the blogsphere too long?

I don't know? I've noticed this several times from more than one member.

Yes, but blogging changed things now. People can choose to suppress certain viewpoints on their blogs if they don't like the comments. So I was wondering if the fact how owners have control over who can comment on their blogs, also has an effect on the sense of ownership over threads in a public forum.

I agree, people do have disagreement about religion, but hey we don't live a perfect world where everyone agree with everything.

Another reason for locking threads automatically is so it would force the people to think carefully what they want to post because they know the thread will only take a limit of posts and just going back and forth in a chatty or immature way would cause you to lose your spot to speak out your opinion.

Or it could case people to deliberately be chatty to try and get the topic locked.

They already have caused the thread to be lock. But really, if a person a troll, then you should remove his posts.

people should not be going back and forth like a chatroom.

hmm, I wonder if there is board that allow chatroom under every thread so people can go back and forth. but that probably cause too much trouble.

here's what I think the board should do. Make hot topics ten pages long then have it automatically lock (so no one get to the point to name calling)
Many people attack on page 1, and there might be more pertinent information to contribute to a discussion even past page 10, so that isn't really a viable option. Threads shouldn't be locked just because a few people aren't capable of behaving. That just ruins it for everyone else. People just need to learn to be more respectful of one another or leave.

But some people will NEVER learn and continue to spoil it for others....

they should be BANNED.....

:giggle:

That's one of the reasons why I dont believe in organized religion. I do find it fascinating with the history and everything but practice it, nah.

However, I did enjoy reading the religion subforum but it caused too many problems.

 Yeah... try and get a Catholic and a Baptist to agree on something.

Some people need organized religion and church. There was one person who didn't believe in churches so she tried to interpret the bible her way. In a result, because she didn't fellowship with other christians, she ended up dead because she took the healing interpretion way too far. Faith alone. If she have discussed her interpretion with others, more likely someone could have shown her errors and that the bible does not forbid doctors. That we need doctors, and pointed out the scriptures on it. People always seem take a danger path when they don't fellowship and study the bible with other people.

But I'll leave it to a christian board to handle christians. I still think politics is just as bad.

Uh oh! Should we stop while we are ahead with the religion discussion or we will actually get this thread locked? *ducks*

I think we should cease talking about religions... considering... i am one of those self-taught folks... and is biting my tongue on that issue.

Anyway, the thing with politics is that it affects EVERYONE regardless of background. It's not like you can up and move to another country easily or turn a blind eye without political matters affecting you.

I can agree on that, EXCEPT when religion is something that is affecting EVERYONE (ie, ft hood shootings)

Zealots should just be written off as loonies, regardless of their convictions. Period. Why? Because they are violating the very basis of human rights in which almost everyone (in the world) agree on. So no need to bring religions in the topic of those types, because they know better.

I didn't say everyone need it, just saying that some people need it. but it is better for people to go to a religion board to discuss religion anyway so never mind on that.

I don't mind discussing news, but for people to badmouth each other political party is really annoying.

Regarding the first one, I agree.

Regarding the second one, I am not sure how other forums are able to conduct it without mods being Nazis.
