Kids: Boy Pulled Gun on School Bus
An 11-year-old New Haven boy is accused of pulling out a gun and starting to threaten at least one other student while on a Datco bus in Milford, Milford police said.
The bus was dropping off the New Haven children at an elementary school in Milford. Police won't say which one, but the bus usually drops off students at the Meadowside, Pumpkin Delight and Simon Lake schools.
"It's frightening because you're not there with your kid. You have to rely on another adult to supervise them and everything," said Stephanie DeCesare, who has a child at Simon Lake.
The alleged incident happened in March or April. The allegations came to light Wednesday when several students spoke up and the information reached their principal.
The students said they did not come forward earlier because "they were in fear of saying anything.”
When school officials became aware of it, they immediately told police, who started an investigation. Five students said they witnessed the alleged threat.
"Hopefully the kids are telling the truth. It's not just a hoax. You have to be concerned with something like that, so hopefully the police will investigate," said Frank Streeter, whose son goes to Meadowside.
Police searched the boy's New Haven home and found no firearms. So far no charges have been filed. Police say they are working with the school and bus company to figure out what happened.
