WASHINGTON - House Republicans on Thursday will demand that a bipartisan panel investigate House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's claims that the CIA misled her in 2002 about whether waterboarding had been used against a terrorism suspect.

Senior Republican aides said the GOP would introduce a resolution calling for the probe. Under House rules, Pelosi would have two days to arrange for a vote on the measure.

Pelosi spokesman Nadeam Elshami called the move a partisan ploy.

"This is partisan politics and an attempt by the Republicans to distract from the real issue of creating jobs and making progress on health care, energy and education," he said.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney waded into the debate in a speech on Thursday, saying that members of Congress including Pelosi had been briefed on interrogation techniques used with suspected terrorists.

Pelosi told reporters this month that she had not been told that waterboarding had been used, even though it had been.

Lying is a crime
The head of the CIA has defended his agency. House Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio has said Pelosi should back up her claims with evidence or retract her accusation.

"Lying to the Congress of the United States is a crime," he said.

Pelosi has already said that the evidence should be declassified.

Democrats also are pointing out that Republicans too have accused the CIA of misleading them on intelligence matters. Boehner himself called into question the soundness of the intelligence community when it determined in 2007 that Tehran had halted its nuclear weapons program.

The CIA has sent lawmakers its notes and memos on 40 congressional briefings on the interrogation techniques. Those techniques include waterboarding, a form of simulated drowning, which President Barack Obama has called torture.

But that document has been found to include errors.

CIA Director Leon Panetta acknowledged in a May 6 letter to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas, that the CIA's list may not be completely accurate.

"In the end, you and the committee will have to determine whether this information is an accurate summary of what actually happened," Panetta wrote.

She did do something wrong, she was told that waterboarding was being used in the year of 2003, and had said absolutely nothing about it, until now.

Yes, she know but torture method was not her decision but Bush Admin. She claimed that she know about waterboarding issues but she didn´t know full and felt that she was being mislead by CIA.

That leaves more work for Obama to deal with, I almost felt sorry for him.

And I for one do not think waterboarding is torure, we waterboarded terrorists.

I only feel sorry for innocents, they were being label as terrorist suspects by US authorities because they are victim by US politic system.

Accord the link, I posted in other thread that they were being kidnapped and sold to US authorties as "terrorist suspects" , without prove that they are real terrorists. They were being torture/mistreat without trial including European-muslims/arabs as well.

I personally have read about them few days before the thread was being created. I defend none of Panetta nor Pelosi in my first post #27 but make fair post to view about them since Reba ask for which right or wrong.

All what I do is support victims over Panetta, Pelosi or politicans. I am on victims´ side and want to see Bush and his people to prosecute over crime. I really don´t care either Pelosi knew or not as long as she didn´t authortize the torture and torture anyone.

For starter - her opening speech... she said all the right things that make our hearts melted.... and in the end - it was nothing but empty promises.

1. she preached about impeaching Bush (and later blocked effort to do so and continued to kiss Bush's ass till the end and then chastised him when Bush's no longer the President).
2. I'm also fed up with her empty threats - threatening to take Bush to court over Iraq war spending bill... which never happened or did anything about it. not a single bit.
3. tells the illegal immigrants to GTFO but does not want to enforce the laws against illegals

All the lists, you made is the best proof that Nancy do SOMETHING, not do NOTHING like what you accused her in your previous posts.

I praise Nancy for tried so hard for want to do something on Bush but she failed thru high voters against her. It would be wonderful if there´re high voters support Nancy. See yourself that high voters is Republians support against her.

The voters, including Republicans, gave Democratic Party a carte blanche while voicing their desires to end the war in Iraq, to impeach Busy & Cheney, and to stop Iran invasion. Speaker of the House does actually have power to hold them responsible. Nothing happened. Why? Because Pelosi blocked it. See my post above.

There was a tribunal court at Gitmo Camp set up for that under Bush Administration to determine if the alleged terrorists are terrorists or not. Obama suspended it. Blame him for not adhering with due process law.

They were released because of war tribunal court set up by Bush Administration. More can be released if Obama didn't suspend the trial.
