Every computer is assigned an IP address as a way to identify that computer. It's like a phone number. You cannot be "invisible" to the ISP.

When your IP is banned, it doesn't mean the ISP is banned. It merely means that IP address is banned. Just like when you block a phone number, it doesn't mean the phone company is banned.

Yes, it is possible to come up with a DIFFERENT IP address. We just have to be alert to that possiblity.

A little bit of info from a guy that sometimes mods a website (me) as to IP and ISP. You are correct in saying the above. Mods/staff can block an IP address from gaining entrance to a site. An ISP block is not possible, at least to my knowledge. Also, I use 3 different IP locators to track members. The results are not always the same; that always leaves me feeling less than 100% that I know where they are from. Some ISPs group many IPs together, such as AOL. And finally, there is software available that can mask your IP, or even change it to any location you wish. I could move my IP to China without leaving my chair.

She didnt know 100%...she had wondered about it and questioned him so hard then but eventually believed his lies. She was fooled by this as all of us were.

I'm sorry but It really wouldn't surprise me if she WAS involved. It's just the timing that is a little bizare. Mrs Bucket has her doupts. People are trying to contact Jillo without any success then AFTER Mrs Bucket has her doupts then Jillo suddenly shows up again on the same page. It's a weird coincidence.

But you will say I'm biased as we don't get on. Jillo is on my ignore list too and she's going to stay there for good now. Also the last time this happened there was more then one person involved so I know it can happen that way. The person who faked their death and the person who reported it.

on surface level - yes you can appear to be from China but with no technical knowledge, it leaves dirt around. That's precisely what separates noobs from those who knows what they're doing. The administrator knows what to look for. It's the little mess they leave around as they walk. :cool2:

That's why I said there are several ways to block'em.... depending on the situation.

Here is the newest technique the scammers have been using. They have someone in the US, say Florida, sign them up to a new account. Perhaps they are using this IP changing software; dunno. Then, they email the user name and password to the scammer group in Nigeria, where the real user signs in. I constantly block IPs from Nigeria, but they circumvent my blocks this way. As long as they find a victim, they will pay for this software and learn tricks to access legitimate members. If you sat in my chair, you would realize how simple it is. If I were banned from AD, I could just visit my sister, brother, etc, and use their PC to create a new "me". The hoax person could certainly start anew with an entirely different personality. All that would be required is a new IP, from a new locale. I suspect this will occur, regardless of what the mods do. Some scammers want money. Some want other things; in this case, sympathy and attention perhaps. BTW, if you Google "IP address changer software" you will see MILLIONS of hits.

jillio explained everything to all of us. She is going through the same emotions as we all are. I was wrong to accuse jillio of such thing and I apologised to her in open forum.

I PMed jillio and I apologised to her again. I was not going to justify my action but apologise to her.

dreama, jillio is NOT involved in this in any way or sort.

She was working last night, there had been a thunderstorm & it cut off her electricity. She couldn't have any internet access until this AM. She is trying to deal with this as much as we are. All of us saw her posting explanations left and right so she doesn't need to justify herself again.

I am defending jillio as I think she's been unfairly dragged in the mud because of Byrdie and it is starting to bother me.

now that's a different story. what you speak of sounds like zombie bots. but what are the chance that a banned ADer would do such technique as mentioned above? that requires money and resource - something that "professional" scammers can have. A typical banned ADer does not.
 
There are also websites where they sort of block other websites from seeing your IP by using it's own IP. I don't know how that works or if it even works.
