Warning - may cause tears

If I lost my house, lost everything, and then I am not going to lose my dog because I know my dog is my buddy. The dog learn through its owner and are happy to stay with its owner, the dogs are "pack animals" which they need someone to depend on. Now you wonder why so many of dogs are sensitive to the new owners depends on their breeds.

If the dog is happy staying with a bum, then that's good. That is how the dogs are.

It's nice to hear from your comment, you got great heart with your dog. :)

First of all is WELCOME BACK!!!

Yes, I second that...

I would never, never, never give my loving cats up, no matter either I struggle with the budget or not...

Anyone should think twice before adopt the pets.

I do understand the emotional aspect of an owner loving their animal.

SPCA is always taking animals from people that are emotionally attached! For the same reason that an person with a home that can not afford to feed or care for an animal.

I do feel sorry that the homeless person is lonely. And is at need for his companion.

This dog in this picture is a German Shepard! The dog is SKINNY!

I can really understand where Byrdie714 is coming from and others as well. The picture of the homeless guy with the dog looks real sad, you gonna admit it does break your heart.

You know homeless people are the loneliness people in the world they got nobody, and having a pet is like a survival tool, by keeping them alive getting extra love and attention by their pets. You know dogs don't care where they live, as long they have food and love. Bonding is everything. ;)

Jiro´s post.
give them up to who? Many shelters are already overcrowded and chance is his dog would be euthanized. It is said that the happiest dog in the world is with a homeless person. much happier than a suburb dog because a homeless guy is a roamer, nomadic, traveler, etc. That is ultimately a dog's dream - to travel everyday along with the leader... exactly what the dogs' ancestors have been doing for hundred of thousand of years. That's why it's not uncommon to see a dog wearing no leash when walking with homeless person.

Like I said - a dog can eat whatever the bum's eating. a dog can sleep in wherever the bum's sleeping at. a dog can shit/piss wherever the bum's pissing/shitting at.

:gpost:

Byrdie, what's wrong with you? You are really cold heart over between homeless people and pets.

You will be homeless in one day, no matters.

No I won't because I won't allow it to happen. Anytime people have to pay bills--the first thing one should always pay first is the mortgage payment, then food, then rest of the bills.

Thank you.

I'm happy to see that you noticed that. Deaf people are suppose to be observant and I'm surpsied many didn't see that the dog is SKINNY.
I was wondering if anyone noticed that but they were too busy "boo-hooing" over the fact that they were homeless.

skinny? that dog doesn't look skinny to me. neither is that bum. Look at its dog's chest, fur, and face. They're minimally fed enough to function.

quite a handful of NYC bums are resourceful. they know which places would discarded food at closing hours. For ie - at the closing hour, Dunkin' Donut would just take all the remaining donuts and throw them out. I have heard that some of them do give them away to bums.

It will happen to you in anytime, no matters, what's up with greedy man.

Don't matters about mortgage payment, then food and others, that's not my point and you don't make make any sense.

and some resturants in nyc do the same things too, but not all of them, maybe a few ones. i saw one resturants did give the homeless peeps in nyc.

The dog does look deprived!! As I was growing up we have raised and breed many German shepherds. I have seen small and large ones. but for this dog! He is not in good shape for its build.

This dog is starving in this photo!!

If SPCA would see this....... The dog would be placed with some one that can care for it.

As byrdie stated before. You statement proves his point. You are speaking more for the "bum" than you are for the dog.

I do noticed that dog is skinny, there is a chance that the dog might not be his, there's many spray dogs roaming all over the place and on the streets, the homeless guy and that dog probably just keeping each others company. You just never know. ;)

good luck with that. I call it "PETA Syndrome." While you're outraged and think that the dog's better off at shelter or whatever, you think you just served a noble cause for dogs. The reality is... the dog got euthanized. :nono:

Thanks, glad to hear from you again! :D

I remember that thread, yeah it was sad. But I've notice most people tried so hard for their pets even though the ecomony was clumsy. I agree with you, we have to think twice before adopt.

 Whatever Highlander. Apparently one can't comprehend that one won't be homeless.

I think you don't have a heart. Your other quote about wont happen to you to be homeless because you own 4 properties, be careful what you say. THere are a lot of people thinking it won't happen but it did.

Maybe that dog was found in the street and the homeless man found friend. Think about that maybe?

You don't know for sure. You are making an assumptions just like the rest of us responding to this picture.

How can it happen if 3 of the 4 are paid for?

The humane thing would be surrendering the dog. For all of you that yell, "companionship", remember that the homeless man can get "companionship" from other humans until he is back on his feet to better care for a pet.....

Well - my assumption is based on my experience volunteering at several animal shelters... Older and/or bigger dogs are mostly undesirable for adoption. Most were adopted as well but were returned in short time. and the statistic backs my assumption.

American Humane
Using the National Council's numbers from 1997 and estimating the number of operating shelters in the United States to be 3,500 (the exact number of animal shelters operating in the United States does not exist), here are the statistics:

* Of the 1,000 shelters that replied to the National Council's survey, 4.3 million animals were handled.
* In 1997 roughly 64% of the total number of animals that entered shelters were euthanized -- approximately 2.7 million animals in just these 1,000 shelters. These animals may have been put down due to overcrowding, but may have been sick, aggressive, injured, or suffered something else.
* 56% of dogs and 71% of cats that enter animal shelters are euthanized. More cats are euthanized than dogs because they are more likely to enter a shelter without any owner identification.
* Only 15% of dogs and 2% of cats that enter animal shelters are reunited with their owners.
* 25% of dogs and 24% of cats that enter animal shelters are adopted.

It is from these numbers that we estimated what is occurring nationwide. It is widely accepted that 9.6 million animals are euthanized annually in the United States.

So?

Remember that we are to blame for the animal overpopulation as individuals don't spay/neuter their pets.

With the overpopulation of pets--some are going to have to be euthanized.

Sad but fact of life.

no but i'm referring to my assumption that if the bum surrenders this dog... that dog will most likely be euthanized.
