6 figures to be "middle class" in NYC!

My rent in SF is $3500 a month. I wanted to buy last year buy could not afford the $8000 mortgage payments. Maybe someday. It's worth it to me, I can't imagine living anywhere else.

ouch. not very surprising. That's precisely like NYC. :squint:

It is a 4 bedroom house with a two car garage. I am self-employed and work with children.

oh wow..... $3,500/month in SF for that??? wow... for $3,500/month in NYC - that gets you a nice 1-BR condo with view.

I've never been to NYC, just passed through the airport a few times. I would love to see the housing there.

I would much rather live in SF than NYC. It's got hills, views, rarely snows, mild summers and less populated and LOT cheaper!

Seattle do have some very steep streets, and SF isn't alone after all. :)

Too bad NY is so expensive and Manahattan Island is basically flat filled with tons of skyscrapers, there's nothing there but skyscrapers and a Central Park which is a "view". Sometimes, I don't get why they charge so much for those while you can get someplace at a way better deal with lot less traffic and peace.

because you have close access to everything you want and it's 24/7 - Madison Square Garden, Broadway, etc. If you live at someplace with peace and less traffic.... it's lonesome. I'm not a big fan of suburb. It's depressing.

That's right, it's 24/7 there. I prefer city to suburb. I grew up in Ohio -- very depressing.

Yea, but we're not supposed to be talking about the hills of SF.:ty:

Ouch, NYC should be overprice for sure but not interested to live in NYC, anyway.

I rather to live in LA so far than NYC, however LA has very bigger suburb and just got used with life in suburb, cost of living is fairly expensive but not outrageous as NYC and SF.

Well, why would I stay up all night to buy something middle of the night...no thanks. I would rather live in a city that has a reasonable cost of living than NYC which is too ridicilous.

because there are people who are nite owls like me. it's not just to buy something. it's got late-nite entertainment places as well. point is - you have anything for your needs nearly 24/7. :cool2:

Not for me...I'm not into late night stuff, rather be at home at night..thank you.

yea. That's why each cities has its own quirks and styles. You just gotta pick one that fits your requirement. Mine is here in North-Eastern coast.

So, you fit in Nor'easter lifestyle I guess?

I do notice about NYC has alot of shops with 24/7, especially on Broadway but it's ok to visit in middle of night for while but not everyday, however I work overnight right now and really not concern for me.

yeah, NYC has tons of stores within a few block aways rather than spread out so far away. There's like few thousand pizza joints in NYC alone.

Nice but in my area is ugh, nothing so much at late night, however I know Waffle House, Whataburger and Krystal are open all night but Taco Bell and KFC are open at late night for Fri-Sat, exception of Waffle House, all of them are around 15-20 mins away from my workplace but not worth to go here, I hate Waffle House, anyway.

:laugh2::laugh2::laugh2: true that. There are only 3 pizza places in NYC at certain location that I go to. Very DELICIOUS and HUGE.
