No-texting law applies to deaf drivers

Just imagine . . . 20 years ago people somehow managed to drive from point A to point B without texting or calling someone.
And... it was faster too. :thumb:

and actually honked/waved at somebody! :cool2:

Since I'll be driving soon (I'm going to start my driving classes next month which is febuary)

This law (no texting bans to deaf drivers), Does that mean that this ban will apply to Every state and every town in the united states???

sorry because when they say no-texting law applies to deaf drivers, I thought they meant by one state. But does that still apply to every state in the united states??

no it's not a federal law. Check out the link from IIHS to see what state has cell phone law.

The law in 6 states (Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Mexico, Ohio, and Pennsylvania) specifically authorizes a locality to ban cellphone use. Localities in other states may not need specific statutory authority to ban cellphones.

--I live in ohio. But what do they mean specifically "authorizes a locality to ban cellphone use"??

The state does not want to make it a state-wide law but allows LOCAL towns to enact the ban. This happened in NJ for a while before it became a state law. at that time - my town does not enforce it but the next town does.

Does it make sense now?

kind of. But let me just take a guess here.

you're saying that they could make it become a state law? And they're just trying to figure out wether they should ban the no-texting law against deaf drivers?

Sorry...I'm just trying to figure out how this no-texting law came upon deaf drivers all of a sudden. But I know that Deaf drivers are more careful drivers. Because we know we won't be able to hear alot of the noise on the highway. But we also know not to text while driving which will probably cause an accident. But Even though they say we're not allowed to call/talk or text on the phone, hearing people just ingores it and they just go ahead with it while we can't text?? that sucks big time.

Don't forget that we are always welcome to park over to use the text messages. Also hearing people are banned from talking on the phone while driving, too, so how can that be discrimination, anyway?

One woman in the car pulled her car over on my driveway and talking on her cell phone, I told her to get off my driveway, ugh.

Yeah I already know that hearing people shouldn't be talking/calling or texting while driving. It has become a huge habit for them. But they do it anyways. And I think thats not fair.

My mom was picking me and my sister up from piano lessons one time, heading to mcdonalds. So, As We were leaving my piano teacher's neighboorhood, this girl that looked like in her early 20s, was talking on the phone, not paying attention, who almost crashed my mom's front left rear bumper car. But my mom honked and the girl slammed on her brakes and dropped her phone on her car seat. She smiled and waved. Then she backed up a little bit and made her way thru the street.

it has NOTHING to do with deaf drivers. It's about holding CELL PHONE while driving. The law specifically said you CANNOT hold cell phone to talk while driving. But the drivers think they got clever cuz "technically" they are not using cell phone to talk but text-messaging. That is wrong. Simply put - the law says NO HOLDING CELL PHONE WHILE DRIVING - TO TALK OR TXT! but you can use bluetooth to talk because both of your hands are on the wheel and your eyes are on the road at ALL time.

When you talk on cellphone, you have one hand on the wheel. When you txt-message, you have one hand on the wheel and your eyes are NOT looking at the road. Both cases are dangerous.

Your state has not decided whether or not to pass it to make it a STATE law but they do allow the local towns to have that law.

Yes the hearing drivers break this law and just talk on cell phone... and so can you. You can break this law and text-messageif you like. but both of you will get $$$$$$ fines if you got caught.

They ignore the laws doesn't mean that they are allowed to talk on the phone while driving. If they was caught by the police, they will be charged. That applies the same as if the deaf people ignore the law and use the text message while driving.

Wow, that girl surely didn't watch her road.. It's really stupid to putting the unnecessary risks on the driving.

yes I know it's not fair and yes they do it anyway... that's why they will have $$$$$$$$$$ fines if they got caught. If that didn't work, I wouldn't be surprised if the state decides to pass another STRICT law that will give you DMV points/jail/bigger fines.

it's sad... more laws on the book means people continue to abuse the privilege and cause major inconvenience for all.

yea same here. Happened to me twice. both cases - it was stupid young girl yapping away on cell phone driving an extremely large SUV. I mean EXTREMELY LARGE suv!!!! I would have suffered a serious brain damage because it was almost a T-bone accident and my car did not have side airbag.

She ran thru the red at the intersection at fast speed and I honked loudly. she stopped just 1 foot away from my driver side. My face was just :-o, staring at her SUV's grill plate.

:mad2:

Yup that's right.

I guess this law exist for a reason but what if I need texting in case of an emgerency?

Still wont stop me from using a cell phone while I drive so seriously, I've been driving since I was 18 and I never even get into one crash or got a ticket since.

so use it in case of emergency then. the law says it's a crime to kill a man but not if it's self-defense.... same thing :cool2:

Ohio law don't include cellphone and texting ban while driving but the city of Brooklyn, Ohio, broke new ground in 1999, becoming the first city in the country (first US history) at to ban cell phone use while driving.

Obviously, if it's a true emergency, you have to use your good judgment.

Sometimes cell phone users don't get into a crash themselves but they cause other drivers to crash. You'll never know how many people had to swerve because you were on the phone. I see it all the time. People are so obliviously chatting on their phones that they don't notice that they cut off someone in traffic.

this is true. i take cabs often and i can't count the number of drivers i've seen who talk on their cell phones while driving. as a result, they end up slamming on their brakes, running yellow or red lights and speeding.
