Jiro: Discussing travels and costs on motorways

That is a good reason to pay to use the bridge but what about the motorways that doesn't have bridges? :mad2:

IMO - it makes no sense to put toll booths on major motorways since it causes traffic jams

GWB = George Washington Bridge... it's the major major major bridge (and you've probably see it in many movies). It's the bridge between NJ-NYC.

I edited my post already, I knew what it stood for cuz I scrolled up to check what you are abbreviating.

I-35W Mississippi River bridge

Safety board faults design flaws in bridge
The National Transportation Safety Board has closed its investigation into the I-35W bridge collapse. The board ruled that the gusset plates on the bridge were not designed properly and also found that MnDOT had not adequately overseen the bridge's design.

Excatly, what if there was, what would be the difference?

Yes, better traffic, si?

Well, there is congestion taxing system on SR 167 here in south area of Seattle Metro area....they charge on a per mile basis, I think. You can go alone on the HOV lane and get charged with the transponder that reads your card above the HOV lane. It's not free to use the HOV when u're alone in the car...it was a new system that was installed last year. It's called HOT lanes.

1. everybody gets to where they need to go quickly
2. good for environment
3. no more high commuting cost
4. less dependence on oil

even that... it's still an epic fail and we still have traffic jams. It puzzles me to see many people in traffic jam are solo drivers...

Well, there are highway patrols hiding to watch for cheaters on the HOT lanes. :)

Yeah, there's also lot of buses using the HOV lanes and they exit on the HOV exit to the bus stop in the middle of the freeway. They're common here and it reduces the fuel consumption and time weaving across the lanes to the exit.

yup but that still doesn't solve the traffic jam issue. I have heard of stories that drivers use the blow-up doll to pose as passengers LOL!! :laugh2:

Sorry, Jiro! I was referring to the HOT lanes and I didnt see the new post AFTER my post was published :mad2:

But would THIS be expensive, si?

any major bridges are expensive. you need to inspect each strand of steel wires, continuously repaint it with rust-proof substance, maintain the road since the bridge tweaks and bends, etc... and you have to do that everyday

Well, that Golden Gate bridge was completed in 1936 so I don't remember how much it costed....you know what? It STILL has tolls on the southbound lanes entering SF, which cost $7.
