On Obama's big day, Bill Ayers speaks

Okay I understand you being against Ayers, that's fine, but are you still suspicious about their relationship? Do you honestly think there's some underlying secret relationship? Just trying to clarify if you're just against people glorifying Ayers or if there's more to it.
I don't like to see people glorifying Ayers.

I think Ayers is just one of many disreputable associations in Obama's past. It's too late now to make an issue of it because Obama won the election. We'll just have to watch and see how his time with those people influence his political direction.

reba,

in what way do you think it would affect obama's political views?

(sorry for the lowercase typing. my left hand is bothering me and i'm wearing a splint which makes typing difficult)

I started this thread proving that there's no substantial association between Ayers and Obama. And you talked about how bad Ayers is which wasn't even the point. The point is that Obama and Ayers have SAID repeatedly that they don't know each other well and they just happened to be in the same hood and on the same board. They are NOT saying, "Look, if you promote me, I'll promote you!" or as Ayers said in his interview, just because a person socialized with him does NOT mean that the person shares with his beliefs.
And none of the posts or links prove that they aren't kindred philosophic spirits.

... He had him over at his house for senate candidancy... he knew his family because they're both in the same hood. He knew him on the board and shared issues relating to the education and nothing more. There's nothing unusual about it.
Would you support someone's candidacy if you didn't know for sure that you both have the same political philosophy?

Yes, I think it would be unusual for someone to sponsor a candidate without having the same philosophy.

If I came over to your house, would it be fair for the media to questoin your association with an athiest?
I'm not running for political office so there is no reason for media questions, associating with atheists is not illegal or unethical, and there is a difference between you coming to my house and my sponsoring your candidacy for a political office.

In other words, there is no comparison in the two situations.

Lowercase is no problem; I prefer that to uppercase "shouting", ha, ha. :P

I hope your hand feels better soon. :)

I believe Obama and Ayers had similar political viewpoints before they even met. Otherwise, Ayers wouldn't have supported him. Ayers, as the older, more experienced politico and teacher, enforced and deepened Obama's convictions and direction. I believe Ayers also opened some doors to further associations and mentoring.

Alright, you're entitled to your opinion. Obviously, you don't believe that they just had small talk type of relationship. I find all those "conspiracy theories" interesting. Seems like people really want to make real life more like a movie.

Agreed. This is just more of the conservative attempt to instill fear. I find it amusing.

Would you become a sponsor for a candidate just on the basis of small talk? That doesn't seem realistic.

Besides, if Ayers is so admirable, why are people so gungho to downplay the Obama-Ayers relationship?

I find it amusing that you equate awareness with fear.

Oh brother. You realize that it's a conspiracy thought?

OMG!!!! This country is in trouble. The American people are so stupid that a majority elected a foreign born Muslim socialist Marxist who associates with known terrorists!:Ohno: And he's BLACK!:run: He wants to take away guns and kill babies!

I don't equate the two. That is what is so amusing. Obviously, you do connect the two.
Nope. Informing people is not the same as instilling fear. If people have information they can make decisions and take actions; they don't need to feel fearful or helpless. :)

Yep, people had the information, they decided the Ayers debacle was nonsense, and they duly elected Barack Obama. No need to try to instill fear at this point.

Have I said "OMG!!!!"? Have I called Americans stupid? Did I say that Obama was foreign born or a Muslim? Did I say, "he's BLACK! :run:?" No.

I do believe he has socialistic and Marxist views and goals, that he wants to increase restrictions on our 2nd Amendment rights, that he associated with a known terrorist, and that he is pro-abortion.

So? I'm not in a panic about it.

It seems to bother you more than it bothers me.

Did you see your name anywhere in my post?:cool2:

And, Reba, the man can't be a socialist and a Marxist both. The fact is, he is neither.

And, no it doesn't bother me. As I stated prior, I find it amusing that people are still attempting to grind the old rumor mill and create fear.

Who said the voters decided that "the Ayers debacle was nonsense?" Some didn't know about it (as evidenced by TV interviews with voters, especially young ones), or they didn't care (not their priority). Some voters agreed with Ayers, so they thought the association with Obama was a positive thing.

I repeat; I'm not trying to instill fear in anyone.

Evidently, it was not considered to have any substance, or Obama would not have won the Presidency in a landslide, now would he. God knows Palin did all she could to make it an issue. The fact is, as much as the right wingers tried to make it a black mark against Obama's character, it was then, and now, a non-issue.

Are you talking about Ayers being a sponsor for Obama? What is more realistic: Ayers being a sponsor for Obama or being a sponsor for McCain..........He IS a college professor and most people from college areas tend to be Democrats. I don't know if you noticed but most people sponsor a candidate.. and there's only two... Law of probability tells me that Ayers sponsoring Obama falls within the norms.....

Your view: There's something suspicious about Obama-Ayers relationship, everyone is glorifying Ayers, and trying to downplay their "palling around".

My view: Obama-Ayers relationship falls within the norms, no one cares about Ayers, and I'm defending Obama about this because it's so atrocious and it's something very obvious. "Look its beef. It's red, it's meaty, and it tastes like beef!" "No I think it's fish. There is something fishy about it."
