After Vamprox posted a thread on Wal-Mart's new logo, since some people were interested in the logos and how they differed over the years. I thought to myself, why don't I create a thread and discuss logos? So here it is.

The things about a logo is that it should be familiar and easily identified by the public. The correct way to change a logo is to make a small change at a time. It is a gradual process and takes much more time than one could possibly imagine.

The most common mistake a company makes is completely revamping the logo with no resemblance to the original. When a new logo is shown to a consumer, they should be able to recognize which company it is. Most of the times, people may not notice the subtle changes, but they do appear refreshing to them because it is different even if they don't know it.

There are so much we can discuss here.

Wal-Mart's rebranding is too bland and the sunshine symbol is an eyesore. As you can see, the logo went under a few heavy rebranding in its early years then stuck to a similar logo for the last couple decades.

I don't know who advised them to make such a big change. I don't know why they are using a sunshine symbol. In fact, I see a lot of people using sunshine symbol in their logos these days.

The rebranding of Snapple, the consumer can identify it without a problem as they use similar typography but is no longer angled. That was something I didn't care for to start with. Angled typography can become a problem when you try to work with it in an ad.

It is better if the typography is grounded all together rather than on an angle. Also, the gradient effect is efficient and easy on the eyes. In the majority of the logo using gradient effects, it is often badly used and end up making the logo ugly.

Snapple succeeded with this rebranding as far I am concerned. They got rid of the problems with the original logo and made a better one yet stayed true to its design.

Wacom... this is how to not do a rebranding. They managed to take a logo that was already ugly to start with and made it even more uglier.

Wow!

Here are some famous logos you might be familiar with.

I think Starbucks is doing an anniversary special because I saw a starbucks cup a couple of days ago with the old 70s logo on it.

Interesting! I honestly never thought about this before...but now I drive around and I'm looking at all kinds of logos because of you and Vampy. LOL.

Hahaha...

I often don't think about it unless my mind is blank... then I see something and decide to think about it. That's when I usually realize that something changed.

For instance, KFC... used to be Kentucky Fried Chicken. I remember all of the KFC locations had the full name years ago. I don't remember when it changed because I never took the time to notice... until one day, I was eating at KFC and looked around only to realize that they no longer used "Kentucky Fried Chicken". ;)

Banjo, I dunno why the Walmart logo was changed drastically. I have my suspicions, though. Perhaps Walmart doesn't want to be associated with the kind of identity that goes with the original logo - cheap, not environmentally friendly, labor issues..

I am surprised wacom changed its logo - it should have stayed with the old one. The new logo looks really cheap and a little outlandish. I own a wacom tablet so I know a bit about the branding.

Yes, that was years ago.

Pizza Hut, they changed their logo a few years ago. It was a big change. To be honest, I think it could be better. They changed it when everybody was italicizing their logo with crayon-like design.

Don't care if they start using pink, if the quality of the product is worth less than what my dog's business bags will hold, I'm moving on! lol
