I got a question...but before I ask, let me give a little background here..

As many of you probably already know, I grew up playing sports and I was a serious athlete playing in extremely competive sports. I have "retired" about 15 years ago when I stopped playing college softball.

Even after retiring from playing on teams, I still continued to exercise and I exercised just like how I played sports...hard and intense. I used to work out 15 hours a week before I started working 2 jobs 5 years ago. So, I stopped working out when I worked 2 full-time jobs and then had my son 3 years ago in which I became so out of shape and my old injuries started bothering me.

2 years ago, I tried playing on a Deaf flag football team but I quit cuz my ankles and feet hurt so much. I thought it was due to all the weight I gained.

Back in Jan, I started a workout routine but slowly...so now I am really into it. Lost some weight and now, I am trying to get back to jogging but my legs and feet still hurt a bit so it is kinda hard. Also, I noticed after I weightlift, the areas where I focused on stay sore a lot longer than before and sometimes my joints hurt.

I know I should go see a dr but I am wondering if anyone has experienced that as you get older...does the soreness take longer to go away? It is affecting me at work cuz I use ASL most of the time and my muscles are so tired making it hard for me to keep signing away.

I want to challenge myself more because I think I hit a plateau but I cant due to all the aches and pains.

It sucks!!! Will it get worse as I get older??

You'll get a better answer from your Dr, but I can give you an semi educated guess...

You could have tendonitis or Maybe some arthritis going on? It could also be plantar faciaitis or bone spurs.

Lovely, huh?

My Dad has the plantar thing. I have to confess I'm not much of an exerciser, but I know anatomy pretty good. That's why I threw out those suggestions. Doug might also have some ideas for you, too.

I'm sorry you hurt, though. I just turned 40, so I understand the getting old part. It sucks!

I just wonder if that is normal thing as one ages or there could be something wrong with me.

Thanks!

I cant live without exercise...those 4 years of no exercise really were terrible for me. I always feel so good after a good workout and I feel like I am becoming addicted to it again. LOL!

I would say wear and tear on certain body areas. You were quite active for awhile, so that alone brings wear and tear. High intensity activities is NOT easy on the body; especially as we start to get older.

I'd like Doug to weigh in on this, but I would say see your Dr and see what's going on, and then, work with a moderate exercise program. Something that won't bore you, but also won't be hard on your legs and feet.

Good luck!

What's your workout routine like?

I still workout but I noticed I can pull a muscle easier than ever!!! So I take it easy and workout smarter, like warm up properly, stretch between sets, wear a belt and/or wrist wraps when necessary, and eat right.

My workout usually lasts an hour. More than that, it can lead to over training, less than that then it's not enough. I do cardio on my off days.

Thanks...I used to go to intensive kickboxing classes and I miss those. I am afraid that I would be in too much pain throughout the sessions. The last time I participated in a kickboxing class was right after my son was born and my feet were on fire! However, at that time I was very heavy so I dont know if that will happen again now that I am not as heavy. I was so addicted to my kickboxing classes before I worked 2 jobs..I would go 6 times a week for an hour each every week plus run and weightlift. LOL!

Shel90,

I'm sorry about what happened to you. Oceanbreeze's right, you should see your doctor.
Don't work too hard on yourself. Take it easy. Hopefully, you'll be fine.

I don't like getting older but that's life *I know* but you have to think yourself young *not acting kid no* and be happy whatever you do. (this just advice that's all).

I have plantar facisia in both feet due to flat feet. I just found out that using arch support plates in my gym shoes lessen the pain alot. Are you wearing those as well?

I gained weight since I got plantar facisia a year and half ago. Now I have to get back to exercising.

Yeah, see the doctor. It could be several things.

Shel, have you considered joining a fitness center that has swimming pool? Swimming will be lighter on your feet and is good excercise for everywhere in your body. I have recently joined fitness center and I enjoy swimming there. They have aerobics classes in swimming pool. Just thought it would help you start there then gradually build up to other more physically demanding type of excercises later on?

I had surgery on my hand for carpal tunnel and on my knee for meniscus tear last August and the next month I joined fitness club. Swimming has helped me build up strength in all my body...made me feel great afterwards!

Hey there...I used to be a member of Lifetime Fitness gym...one of the best gyms but since we bought our house, I had to cancel it. Will rejoin when finances are better as it is expensive. I want to swim but money doesnt permit it. Thanks!

Shel90, accord your financinal issues - you don't have to go gym or swim...

Best solution is daily walk or ride a bicycle. (That's how I learn at 5 weeks Spa at 2 years ago).

Yes, you need more exercise before you will get suffer pain later... You really don't have to do with sports, gym, etc... but daily walk or ride a bicycle is good enough.

My hubby & I goes to shopping every saturday morning... I get up at early before him (he wake up 30 minutes later) and walk 3 miles alone until my hubby is ready and drove to same way to find me and then drove together to shopping... I do like that every saturday... And saturday evening, I ride a bicycle to town to get something small or fresh air... for one hour...

Sunday - long 2 hours walk into forest...

Monday to Friday 8 hours working... no exercise that's why I use evening walk or ride bicycle after evening supper with my hubby... I still visit gym 3 times a week and will quit next May because I will use bicycle to work everyday which is only 20 minutes away from my area... (caserne where I work will move to other caserne near my area next February/March).

Oh yes, do housework or garden work is also good execrise as well... you need more engery... but walk or bicycle is good enough. It would be greater if you want go swimming sometimes. Maybe once a week or month? If your fianicinal permit.

Yes, Shel90 I was a sporter like you at long time ago... now no more since 1980s... but walk or bicycle does good enough.

Mainly important that you don't have to force yourself... but relax... walk... I know walk or bicycle helps to get stress out of your mind...

Shel90, I feel you, too. I'm almost 44 and experience some "funny sore' feeling in my left shoulder and not in a great shape either. Yep, it sucks getting older and older. lol

I just started riding bike yet walking sometimes. Wanted to swim yet I realized that it ain't my favorite part anymore so.

Although I started to eat properly, if not perfect and drink more 100% juices since last year, but there is more for me to reach a better shape.

Good luck shaping yourself up whatever you could! :D

I had been see a podiatrist to insulin on my bone spurs on my right foot. It was extremely painful when I walked with support inside my sneakers. I really need to lose 60 lbs, the pain will fade. My arthritis on knee and hip are bothering me lately when the cold weather starts. My insurance does not cover the support pad on my shoes to help anti-pain with my right foot bone spurs. It cost me $400.00 for a pair of those pads support on my shoes.

My ankles have been swelling real badly at the end of day. It was so hard because I am working two jobs (80 hrs a week). I could not let my feet up during the evening. Especially in the summertime, my ankles have a lot of fluid inside. So frustrate to wear nice shoes with dress. I always hide my ankles to cover them with pants.

Every morning, I wake up with ache all over my hip, knee and legs from spurs right foot nerve pitch bother me so much from hip to foot. Oh god, I hate go this pain when I woke up and strench to excerise to help relieve pain.

Now, I am wearing those now. I feel that overweight cause my spurs on my feet are extremely painful. I am avoid to have them surgery.

My sprained ankle took more than 4 months to heal. I finally saw the doctor, who said injuries take longer to heal when one ages. I didn't have problems with knees either until I reached my thirties.

You are not alone!

mostly elder people or couple always exercise lots more reasons like examples as diabates, heart, and lots of mores need more easy.

elder couple always excerise lots at mall or taking swim class lots im tell you.
