What is Redneck?

I agree with u. What I meant was how that term, "redneck" is used. From what I see on TV or read (I can't hear it being used), it is used negatively as to poke fun of people living that certain lifestyle? I don't recall it it being used to describe people positively. Like people insult Mexicans by calling them "wetbacks" when we know that there r good Mexican people out there. Know what I mean? If I am wrong about that label being used negatively in the public, let me know. Thanks
It pretty much depends on who says it, and how they say it.

When Jeff Foxworthy says it, it's funny and rednecks enjoy it. :)

When a Northerner says it and looks down the nose while saying it, that's an insult. :nono:

When a redneck says it, it's either a challenge or a boast. :P

...i know my family are considered rednecks in many ways.. like we put satellite on top of the fridge.. we cut the bottom out of the old freezer and put over water pump so it wont froze in winter time.. it insulate the water pump. it works wonderfully. the faucet knob broke.. we took the faucet knob off the garden water hose and put it on the faucet in kitchen. we used duck tapes pretty on much of most everything ....
Exactly what I posted: rednecks are creative. :) Excellent problem-solving skills. :P

For example this one..

:laugh2:
I think I know those people.
:laugh2:

I remember, I meet southern people at the Timberfest Camping. I notice, they chew hay string in their mouth, didn't shave armpit hairy, did not good take care of their hygiene bodies and teeth. Did not do the floss their teeth. Yikes.. I would not kiss with men who did not do their floss on their teeth. :|

I notice, the men woke up from the tents or old/ dirty Mobil homes at the camping ground. They did not take a shower. They cooked ham, bacon and sausage for breakfast with fried eggs. Bunches of white toast with thick butter. They love all the grease and fatty food every morning for their breakfast.

The men and women's fingernails were black and grease. They did not think of clean or beauty. They think that they are natural where they grew up from their families. Their shirts were too small and tight because they cant afford to buy other extra size shirts with big belly.

Men bend down, can see their butt crack because the jean pants were too small for them. I can't stand to see fat hairy butt. Gross !

Redneck ask you, "Will you marry me?"

Yeah, we rednecks do like to poke fun at ourselves. But, for the record, being a redneck is a way of life, an attitude, a feeling of self-sufficiency in any situation. We hunt, we fish, we love NASCAR racing, we have a healthy respect for firearms, we believe that the USA is the best place in the world to live and that the church is the center of the community, some of us are actually educated and have high-paying jobs. And we love Mom, apple pie, sports and most of all, we love our pick-up trucks. That's it in a nutshell.

"You might be a redneck if..." by comedian Jeff Foxworthy

You might be a redneck if ...

Your standard of living improves when you go camping.

Your prenuptial agreement mentions chickens.

You have jacked up your home to look for a dog.

Your neighbor has ever asked to borrow a quart of beer.

There is a belch on your answering machine greeting.

You have rebuilt a carburetor while sitting on the commode.

Your idea of getting lucky is passing the emissions test.

Your town put the new garbage truck in the Christmas parade.

Your local beauty salon also fixes cars.

None of the tires on your van are the same size.

You hold the hood of your car up with your head while you work on it.

Your doghouse and your living room have the same shag carpet.

You've ever slow danced in a Waffle House.

Starting your car involves popping the hood.

Your garbage man is confused about what goes and what stays.

You whistle at women in church.

You actually wear shoes your dog brought home.

You have been in a fistfight at a yard sale.

You carry a fly swatter in the front seat of the car so you can reach the kids in the backseat.

You think people who have cell phones and e-mail are uppity.

your bass boat goes faster than your pickup truck and cost more than your trailer.

you've ever stolen toilet paper.

you've ever financed a tattoo.

you can't take a nap without at least one hand tucked in your pants.

you've ever bought a used baseball cap.

the flood history of your area is recorded on your living room walls.

you've ever lost a loved one to kudzu.

you ever cut your grass and found a car.

people hear your car coming a long time before they see it.

the gas pedal on your car is shaped like a bare foot.

your screen door has no screen.

the hood and one door are a different color from the rest of your car.

you list your parole officer as a reference.

at the dog track, you always bet on the dog that "does his business" right before the race starts.

you've been on TV more than once describing what the tornado sounded like.

you don't need a clean shirt to go to work.

truckers tell your wife to "watch her language."

the family business requires a lookout.

you've ever eaten out of a minnow bucket.

you think the "6 to 10 pounds" on the side of the Pampers box means how much the diaper will hold.

you drove to elementary school.

you say "I heard dat!" more than three times in a two minute conversation.

your new sofa was on a curb in another part of town yesterday.

the trunk of your car is tied down and you're not hauling anything.

you walk INTO a restaurant with a toothpick in your mouth.

you wait to schedule your family reunion until after the parole board meets.

your richest relative buys a new house and you have to help take the wheels off it.

directions to your house include "turn off the paved road."

your dog and your wallet are both on a chain.

your family tree doesn't fork.

your brother-in-law is also your uncle.

you see going to the family reunion as a chance to pick up chicks.

your Dad walks you to school because you're both in the same grade.

you prominently display a gift you bought at Graceland.

your front porch collapses and kills more than three dogs.

you consider your license plate "personalized" because your father made it.

bikers are afraid of your mama.

Top 10 signs you're at a redneck wedding
10. Rehearsal dinner held at Denny's

9. Instead of "Friends of the bride or friends of the groom?" Ushers ask "Ford or Chevy?"

8. Bridesmaids: Bib overalls; Groomsmen: Travis Tritt T-Shirts

7. Phrase "I Do" replaced by "I Heard Dat"

6. Tender rendition of "The Wedding Song" performed by Pinkard & Bowden

5. When the minister asks "Who giveth this woman to be married"... some guy in the back stands up and hollers "Earnhardt!"

4. Reception conversation includes the phrase, "So what have you been doing since Hee Haw, Mr. Lindsay?"

3. Snack trays at reception: Vienna sausages and Nacho Cheese Doritos

2. Plans for the honeymoon evening include tickets to the monster truck rally

... And The Number One Way To Tell If You're At A Redneck Wedding ...

Sign in front of the church: No Shirt... No Shoes... No Problem!

Martha Stewart's Tips for Rednecks
1. Never take a beer to a job interview.

2. Always identify people in your yard before shooting at them.

3. It's considered tacky to take a cooler to church.

4. If you have to vacuum the bed it's time to change sheets.

5. Even if you're CERTAIN that you are included in the will ... it is still considered tacky to drive a U-Haul to the funeral.

DINING OUT
1. When decanting wine, make sure that you tilt the paper cup and pour slowly so as not to "bruise" the fruit of the vine.

2. If drinking directly from the bottle, always hold it with your fingers covering the label.

ENTERTAINING IN YOUR HOME
1. A centerpiece for the table should NEVER be prepared by a taxidermist.

2. Do NOT allow the dog to eat at the table ...no matter how good his manners are.

PERSONAL HYGIENE
1. While ears need to be cleaned regularly, this is a job that should be done in private using one's OWN truck keys.

2. Proper use of toiletries can forestall bathing for several days. However if you live alone, deodorant is a waste of money. Dirt & grease under the fingernails are a social no-no, as they tend to detract from a woman's jewelry & alter the taste of finger foods.

DATING (OUTSIDE THE FAMILY)
1. Always offer to bait your date's hook, especially on the 1st date.

2. Be aggressive. Let her know you're interested: "I've been wantin' to go out with you since I read that stuff on the bathroom wall 2 years ago.

3. Establish with her parents what time she is expected back. Some will say 10:00 PM; others might say Monday". If the latter is the answer, it is the man's responsibility to get her to school on time.

THEATER ETIQUETTE
1. Crying babies should be taken to the lobby & picked up as soon as the movie has ended.

2. Refrain from talking to characters on the screen. Tests have proven they cannot hear you.

WEDDINGS
1. Livestock is usually a poor choice for a wedding gift.

2. Kissing the bride for more than 5 seconds may get you shot.

3. For the groom, at least, rent a tux. A leisure suit with a cummerbund & a clean bowling shirt can create a tacky appearance.

4. Though uncomfortable, say "yes" to socks & shoes for this special occasion.

DRIVING ETIQUETTE
1. Dim your headlights for approaching vehicles; even if the gun is loaded and the deer is in sight.

2. When approaching a four-way stop, the vehicle with the largest tires ALWAYS has the right of way.

3. Never tow another car using panty hose and duct tape.

4. When sending your wife down the road with a gas can, it is impolite to ask her to bring back beer too.

5. Do NOT lay rubber while traveling in a funeral procession.

I like that better than all those negative stereotyping comments. My friends have been using that term too negatively these days and I noticed that it was influencing my way of thinking about people who live like u. It wasn't a nice feeling starting to conjure all those negative thoughts of certain people's lifestyles. Next time my friends bring that term again, I will tell them your positive comments. No, iam not a redneck myself but I do not like to be one of those people who thinks negative of people different from me. If iam gonna preach about erasing the negative stereotyping of deaf people, I better practice what I preach! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)

Im not here to judge their looks.. but they whoever redneck are cool and funny..

You Are 38% Redneck

The wheeelss stilll turning'',, but the hamster is dead.. You are just faking'' being'' a redneck..

Being a redneck is also how you chose your life to be. I've rather came across some intelligent rednecks and it was intriguing to see how they are very creative at problem solving, rather than spending too much money for a brand new part or only when it is for a temporary basis.

Sure, They might be considered as a "low" class but it does not mean they are actually a "low" class. Sometime, some of them are raised that way and it's the only way they know how to survive. Being a redneck is a way of living, just as much as other groups are with their own way of living.

I'm not a redneck myself but after being exposed to their lifestyle, I can say that it does put you in a different perspective. You get to see what is behind the "back" door of their lifestyle. It's quite interesting.

I know that I´m not American but I look at questions and know that I would not do like that... :eek3:

My family and I live in Oklahoma and not everyone is a redneck. We have cowboys and indians decorations in our living room, we live in a regular house and have normal life. We don't all live like hillbillies/rednecks. smile I agree with DefMusicman with what he posted. We love to go fishing, going to the fairs, art fairs and once in a while go to monster truck shows. We wear regular clothes and don't keep keg of beer nearby at all times. LOL! My husband loves trucks. I'm proud to be an Okie...if that's redneck to others, not a problem. :dance2:
