That is true too. Most people speak Mandarin in their day to day life. But when you consider all the people on this earth that knows English as their second language - much more people know English than these who knows Mandarin.

Because the oralists have led everyone to believe that it is necessary to learn spoken English so you can communicate with that "90% of the people in this world" that they keep talking about.:laugh2:
 
dont forget its worse in asian countries, very firm oralist, China, Japan, Phillipines are among the worst.,,,but ive seen a film "Babel" which as a Deaf Japanese girl who signs...but still...thats a bit strange not?
