    bilateral CI kid

Wirelessly posted (dorothybaez) I'll bet that the little boy retains at least some memory of this interaction. If I'm right, then he will remember and be thankful for your kindness.

    Breathing noises

Wirelessly posted (dorothybaez) I have had the head cold from hell for almost a week now. I was so miserable over the weekend and my son told me that he knew it was bad because he could hear me breathing....usually I can breathe quietly even though I have to really try.

Possible Hearing Loss/ Hard of Hearing?? (long)

Wirelessly posted (dorothybaez) Rachel, it's funny.....my right ear is my "good" ear, but when wearing the HA's the left becomes the "good"ear. Either way, I use the phone on speaker and right next to the ear I'm using at the time, lol.

Possible Hearing Loss/ Hard of Hearing?? (long)

Wirelessly posted (dorothybaez) Kinda makes me wonder how we survived childhood!

Possible Hearing Loss/ Hard of Hearing?? (long)

Wirelessly posted (dorothybaez) Wow! The same thing for me when I go without the HA's - no ear infections! I just do my best to keep my ears and HA's as clean as possible. Right now I wear them to my husband's medical appointments and for work purposes. Luckily, I have decent hearing...

Possible Hearing Loss/ Hard of Hearing?? (long)

Wirelessly posted (dorothybaez) I still get a few infections a year but they are not as severe as they used to be...since I'm concerned about overusing antibiotics, I generally let them clear up on their own.....how much more hearing can I really lose? :dunno:

Possible Hearing Loss/ Hard of Hearing?? (long)

Wirelessly posted (dorothybaez) Both eardrums burst so many times, I lost count. No, I never had surgery for it. After getting encephalitis from the hospital, I wasn't about to even consider it. After a series of really nasty ear infections while I was breastfeeding my second child, I...

Possible Hearing Loss/ Hard of Hearing?? (long)

Wirelessly posted (dorothybaez) You are describing my childhood almost exactly. After my tonsils and adenoids were removed, I contracted encephalitis and almost died. Started to have serious hearing difficulty in high school and my freshman year of college was ear infection hell. It's...

    Think daughter is audist...

Wirelessly posted (dorothybaez) Actually, what will keep me warm is the fact that I have a loving family, including two grown sons. Apparently I did something right since they both grew up to be good kind men who have true respect for others and themselves. We relate to each other as adults...

    Think daughter is audist...

Wirelessly posted (dorothybaez) My son went on to be a competitive kickboxer. :) Why is it your fault you can't hear? Or did I misunderstand?

    Think daughter is audist...

Wirelessly posted (dorothybaez) I never knew that book was part of a trilogy. I'll have to read the other two... As for "talking back," I was never a "because I said so" mom. The few times I needed instant obedience because of some danger, I just quickly said so and they did what I told...

    Think daughter is audist...

Wirelessly posted (dorothybaez) The mother should not have to "prove" anything to her daughter. The daughter is the child and the OP is the parent, who is providing the child's financial support.

    Think daughter is audist...

Wirelessly posted (dorothybaez) I am so sorry that your daughter was so mean to you! Especially in front of her boyfriend. I am going to preface my comment with telling you that my kids are ages 21 & 17. So I'm not just talking out my ass... If my child said something so cruel...

    Annoying ignorant hearing people stories

Wirelessly posted (dorothybaez) Okay, I'll admit I feel the same way about phonics....I homeschooled both my kids and that's how they learned to read. Granted, my boys are hearing and I only had a mild loss at the time. And honestly, most hearing people have no understanding of how deaf/HOH...

    Call from school -- vent

Wirelessly posted (dorothybaez) As a child I would put my coat over my head when I was overwhelmed. From the school's response, you would have thought I claimed to eat puppies for breakfast.

    Well, okay then....

Wirelessly posted (dorothybaez) You know how sometimes you wonder if you heard wrong? This is a true story. After a few hours of pleasant quiet today, I put my HA's in and walked outside to have a cigarette. The kids next door were outside and I heard one of them SHRIEK, "I TOLD HIM TO...
