Nothing can beat my personal experience, after spending 10 days in Paris, I've seen women walking alone at nights... Police are always in a group of 3 or 4 - My wife and I felt much safer there than in major cities in USA. I can't even imagine women walking alone in LA, NYC, Chicago, etc...
