    hearing dogs

I'm in the slow process of training my dog to alert me at night. I have bi lateral Cochlear implants and at night I do not hear a thing. Dog will come up and pound front feet on bed and wake me up but so far not reliable. If you Google service dogs or hearing dogs you should come up with a lot...

Profoundly deaf - anyone like me, have CI?

I would recommend that you get checked out and see what is available now. I have CI's on both sides and am very lucky as I do quite well. I'm even able to get back into my amateur radio, cw no problem at all and not doing all that bad with sideband. I'm 81 years young and yes I did wear aids for...

Just getting started, CT scan next week

Hello, First I hope all goes well with the little fellow. Hopefully he will have good bone conduction and will be able to do well with them. I had hearing aids for over 50 years but I did not need them until I was in my 20's. three years ago they would no longer give me the benefit I needed. I...

ridicuLIST: Hearing aids solve everything by Deaf Review

I guess it depends on definition of "better"? in my case I went from about 25% (comprehension) to about 80% (comprehension) and for me that is a definite improvement is hearing? understanding? Not all people get the same results. Some do and some don't and at different degrees of success/failure.

Thinking of getting a new CI

As to pain I guess it's individual tolerance, I did not even need/use tynenol or anything else at all. A small discomfort for a day or two and that was it. As to phone use, no guarantee that you will be able to use phone even with CI. Some can and do and others don't. I do fairly well with...

    which is better?

I'm not talking about towered airports. I fly out of an open airport w/o tower but I will not fly with out headset and radio. I've stayed on the ground when radio wold not work. When in the pattern of uncontrolled airport we broadcast our position for others and we listen for position of others...

    which is better?

I knew that would come up. I would definitely not want to be in the air when a deaf person is flying a light aircraft. Maybe if they always had someone with them that could hear and understand the radio but otherwise no way. How about a job I once held, control tower operator, again I doubt...

    dual post, sorry.

    which is better?

Studies show that the earlier a child in implanted the greater the success rate but that does not mean all are 100%. Those of us with CI's that got them later in life can tell you that things/sounds do not sound like they did with "normal" hearing and I for one can not even remember what Normal...

    Hi From AZ...

Hi JZ and welcome. Very interesting read and I think you will do just fine. I'm a CI user, both sides and also most likely one of the oldest on this site. There are quite a few groups in Phoenix but admit I don't know very many of them. I'm in Casa Grande so a bit south of you. Also of the...

    Phonak Naida

Hi Radka; I had HA in left ear and CI on right side for over a year before I got second CI. Both aid to comprehension and I'm still learning with the new CI and taking longer than I anticipated. Where are you located in Czech? Spent a week in SumPerk a few years back and a couple of days in...

    so much noise

That is the very large problem with not using the aids or not having them. As one other poster said, the longer you go w/o them the harder it is to adjust. First try and remember that what you hear as noise is most likely noise but you have to realize that is normal? hearing people live with it...

    A lengthy introduction...

KMnO4 First read all you can here. There is a lot of support in this group. In reading all the above I do not see any mention of CI. Looks to me like you have been hearing for a long time and the sudden loss is very noticeable and hard to take. My hearing went over a long time so was able to...

    newbie

Loubelou, It will take some time but you will survive. I did not go deaf real fast as some have but I did ware HA's for over 50 years. Finally got so bad I kind of withdrew into my shell as I think many of us that were hearing for years, do, I'm one of the lucky ones as I now have CI's in both...

    Cochlear implant and possible electrocution?

Those of us with CI's have to be carefull not to get to near strong magnetic devices. In your case I really wonder how that could happen but I'm not very familiar with those devices and they may, at close range put up a fairly strong magnetic field and that sure could cause some problems. Have...
