We Need Current Info Before Writing Off Cochlear Implants

It is true that the parents are a huge part of implant success. That was a large part of the evaluation process at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (where Isaac was implanted). My husband and I had to go through an evaluation of our own to determine if we were going to work with Isaac...

    Dicussion about CI.

Whoa...what a crazy thread! I think everyone strayed away from what it seems the main purpose was. I see so many people insulting other's decisions and it makes me sad. I know that the reason I come here is for support and to share experiences, not to insult others. I think that this issue...

    CI question - Please help

I voted for one year old. Obviously, my husband and I made the decision for our 18 month old, Isaac to have an implant. We chose this to give Isaac options in life. If he gets older and decides he doesn't want to use the implant, we support him. We are learning sign language with him and...

    Standard or mini Freedom?

The audiology department at Childrens Hospital of Philly recommended to us the standard because of the reasons others stated above. You can't use the number of accessories with the mini. I don't know how important that would be to a little child, but we went with the standard for Isaac.

Congrats! Way to go Lilly! What a trooper she is staying up for the rest of the day. I'm glad everything went well.

    Implants and Active kids

Kayla, I agree about the hearing aids. Isaac always ripped them out of his ears. The 3 month trial was the longest 3 months I remember. We even lost a hearing aid somewhere in a field outside and have not found it to this day! We have quite the opposite experience with the implant. Isaac...

    Implants and Active kids

Isaac has only been "turned on" since October 20th, but already I feel like I have put the magnet back on his head a million times. He is a typical boy who loves to run and jump and play. He is just learning how to do a somersault (with assistance of course...he isn't 2 years old yet). The...

    Bilateral Same Day Surgery

Ashleysmommy, I haven't been posting here for a while. My son Isaac had his implant surgery in September and was turned on in October. I would say that having a support system helped me through the surgery. Isaac's Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt and me and his dad were all there at the surgery. It...

    Lillys surgery date

Good Luck with surgery! I haven't posted in a while but I wanted to say that your family will be in our thoughts and prayers tomorrow. It will be over before you realize it and Lilly will be back to her normal self. God Bless!

Surgery scheduled - friendly only please

Sorry this is the first time I have read this thread. We have been visiting family in Kentucky for a few days. Congrats! That is awesome. We will keep Victoria in our thoughts and prayers! She will do fine. Kids are more resiliant than we think. The day after Isaac's surgery, he took his...

    Magnetic Paint and CI's

I know that it was kind of a silly question, but I don't want to put anything in Isaac's environment that may be harmful to him. I guess it is silly b/c Isaac doesn't have a problem when he's near the frige. Thanks for pacifying me....

    Magnetic Paint and CI's

Hello everyone! This may be a silly question, but my husband and I are re-decorating Isaac's room to make room for the new baby and we were considering painting a portion of his wall with magnetic paint. We were thinking it would be a cool place for those letter magnets that we could use to...

    New here!

Welcome! Hello Cara! I am a stay at home mom to Isaac who is 19 months old and I just found out I am pregnant again (due June 1, 2007). Isaac was implanted on September 25 (the same day as momtotoes daughter Erin). We are in the beginning of our journey with the CI. Yesterday Isaac went for...
