What about the inevitable grits? lol...
I'm not crazy about grits except when they're mixed with locally caught shrimp, a SC Lowcountry specialty.

But down here they do serve grits with every thing, especially breakfast. That, and super sweet ice tea. :P

I love grits! And being the daughter of a true southerner I can make
really good sweet tea. Here is the recipie passed down for generations.
You actually boil the the tea bags for 7 minutes. Then turn off the
heat and immediately drop a pinch of baking soda into the tea.
It will fizz and foam up then after that you sweeten it with two
cups of sugar per gallon.

Also for a true southern meal the menu consists of
Grits, black eyed peas, corn bread with chittlins,
fried chicken, mashed potatoes(unless you have
grits that day) corn on the cob, collard greens,
or dandy lion greens if its a few days till pay day,
ice cold watermellon, sweet iced tea and
sweet potatoe pie. drooool

The members of the Liberal party of Canada are often referred to as the Grits while the members of the Conservative party are known as the Tories.

That's interesting! Very Northern grits! :P

Down here, GRITS are "girls raised in the South" (and proud of it).
The GRITS Guide to Life

I've always visited the South most of my childhood life. I miss it, but then I moved to Texas, it helped me reminisce a bit and I got to eat the best Southern cooking, BBQ, Mexican food, and most importantly, drink a lot of iced teas!

Now, as much as one may be a rude Minnesotan but does not mean every Minnesotan should be rude and egocentric, especially about their state. They tend to be nice bunch of people, but that happens sometimes when it come to some issues.

For a moment, I thought of something as Confederate was only for last 4 years and it yet become Heritage? Civil War History is more like.

And, I have yet to see any of that "southern hospitality" either! Come to Minnesota, honey, we'll treat you like you lived here your whole life!

Well, being the gracious southern farm girl that I am, I really can't
respond as I would like to. All I will say is it sounds like, from your
description that you must have been standing in an Army Mess
Hall Chow line some wheres in the deep South got fed what they
labeled as Southern cooking. Restaurant cooking in the south
ain't the same as good ole home deep fried chicken with biscuts and
gravey, with corn on the cob slavered in butter, sweet taters
and black eye peas. I just have to think whoever fed you
before was a Yankee in Rebels clothing. Or
else somebody just stole your candy yesterday.

:giggle: I'm coming to your house for dinner!!!!

Here is a really deep south dish.

I'm coming to your house for dinner!!!!

I'll bet this grosses out a few people here, but this dish is
truely southern for the poor folks diet.

Grits and Fish with Fish Gravey!

Yummm! Deep beer batter fried fish, (usually cat fish and yes
I know its not kosher) grits, and a gravey prepared from the
drippings in the pan the fish was fried in and ladeled over the
grits with a big dolop of butter on top. This gravey is made with water
and not milk. MMMMMMmmm goood! heeheeheeee
Really! This is a real dish!
