Would you date a hearie

I've had several hearing people and guys approach me. When I come to the point of telling them that I'm deaf and explaining to them a bit about Cochlear Implant, they're usually cool with it and did usually ask me more about it. All of this is conducted in spoken language.

There were few incidents of guys coming up to me and speaking to me. And guess what? I couldn't even understand them half of the time! >.< They were just mumbling or don't move their lips much =/

Same way here except I'm a guy :/

How is it different?

It's different because I use my voice with hearing people, which doesn't really reveal the fact that I can't hear speech. This sets up a different expectation for the communication and can send all kinds of conflicting messages to the hearing person.

i can easily see myself grow old w/ a deaf woman: there's nothing wrong w/ that, right? i mean i do not see anything wrong w/ it. are hearie/deaf marriges that unusual...do they tend to end in divorse (mostly)?

They're not unusual at all, actually the most common. Divorce rate? I can't speak for that.

again - spare yourself a trouble, awkwardness, misery, etc.

same line as before.

lolol you had fun? did you ever order a drink from Tony? The signing bartender?

Not sure I voice and sign had one sign ty thats about it... But yes I had a blast! I would rather struggle with sign much easier than 'trying to hear' :giggle: Most stressless night in awhile and it was nice not having to repeat over and over I can't hear you and damn people think I just mean for them to yell louder :giggle:

All smart ass comments aside I had a great time and I was amazed at how many people there made the effort to communicate rather then just walking away which is what I get now, mostly its me pushing them away if you get what I mean, and I didn't realize that until that night... but don't go getting a big head over it now

that's fine if you want to be labeled as HOH.... but I ask you this - can you hear?

HOH and Deaf are both labels. I don't understand why one is okay and the other is not. I'm Deaf. So what. Labelling myself as HOH isn't going to change my reality. :giggle:

Craig does that mean you have some hearing and can speak as well, is that used in your job with the state I think, I asked you in an email because there really wasn't an place to ask in forum but I guess it applies here?

No prob - Just wanted to make sure you had a great night. I'm glad to hear that it was the most stressless night in a while. Really am.

I do the same and they then argue that I can infact hear and I get called a bitch a lot! Thats one word I can read with ease on anyones lips now :giggle:

blah, go away. I'm tired and hungry...so..CHOW TIME!

(-_-)zzzzZZZZZZzzzzzz

And Chucky Cheese isn't bad, FYI!

I wouldn't know. When I was a kid, I ate at REAL MAN'S PIZZA place.... the Pizza Hut! :cool2:

You can sign as well? ;)

That is one of the main reason I went voice off.

And the sign for that same word is just as easily recognizable!
