I am HoH. The little I can hear is very distorted so I usually make use of lip reading but lip reading can be hard bc it's more like feeling in the blanks and making an educated guess to what they might be saying. The distoration does not get better even when louder. ENT said they will not help me at all and really didnt give me anymore options. I was wonder if there were better options anyone knows about to help with my hearing if possible. I am super sensitive to sound vibrations and can kinda "hear" (feel) sound better that way.
Ex. My puppy has a bad heart murmur. I can not hear it like most people can even if given a stethoscope, but I can "hear the vibrations of it when I put hand or head to his body.

I have almost the same problem.
Your ENT SHOULD have recommended that you see a cochlear implant specialist for a consultation.
After some tests they will advise if you are a candidate for one of their procedures.
ENT's should ALWAYS give you options.
FWIW, I am scheduled just before Thanksgiving for C.I. surgery.
Good Luck!

I wonder if a BAHA (bone anchored hearing aid) would work for you.

@ambu I have a BAHA and am HoH. What kind of hearing loss do you have? You said that amplification doesn't work. If it doesn't work a BAHA might not work. It's based on amplification and is only effective for conductive hearing loss. You mentioned distortion, I know sometimes that comes from the cochlea or auditory nerve with sensoneural HL which would make you a better candidate for a CI. Let me know if you have any questions about he BAHA and good luck with the doctor!

Yeah. You're right. I did some research and it seems BAHA probably isn't the best for me. I have mixed hearing loss and I have a disconnect where my brain does not properly process sounds making it where I hear it distorted no matter how loud it is. My ENT says he doesn't handle disconnects because it's not his speciality. According to him it's common for HoH children to have a disconnect as well but usually they grow out of it and I'm one of the rare adults who didn't out grow it

I sympathize with your situation. Reading lips is extremely difficult for me if not impossible. It is nothing more than a guess that I understand what they are saying. Sounds like you are trying to do all you can. A CI helped me to a degree but doesn't do very well for me with any background noise. The best thing I do is concentrate on something other than hearing. I took up painting which doesn't require much hearing. Try and find understanding patient people to surround your self. Unfortunately, we all have difficulties try and look for the positives in your life. It isn't always easy.
