Doctor's office refused to provide interpreter!!!

Here in Finland doctors used to do that to me all the time. They treat us Deaf as total crap and openly refer to us as retards. This may be "world's happiest country", but only because Deaf and disabled never count towards that number. I no longer deal directly with doctors, pharmacies, etc...

Finland, chilly one day, frozen the next.

Oh, sorry. Here in Finland we are metric. Celcius here. I dont know what it is in Farenheit. Outside is -30 degrees (celcius). I slipped over while crossing the road due to a brand new invisible sheet of ice. Should have also worn a balaclava due to the ice crystals whipping at my face like...

Finland, chilly one day, frozen the next.

I am an author and publisher and feel a sense of pride with each sale of one of my books. It makes me smile that some are willing to try to understand from reading my books. Your words gave me a new perspective and were quite empowering. Thank you xx

What was the last movie you watched?

I loved Crank but agree, Crank 2 is one of the worst films ever made. I cringed when I read Crank 3 is soon to be released. My love for Jason Statham still remains strong though

What was the last movie you watched?

Last night I watched Ghost in the Shell. I watched because I saw a preview once and it looked good. Instead it was sheer brilliant! Scarlet Johansson is amazing actress and this storyline was even crazier than Matrix films...

Finland, chilly one day, frozen the next.

I have not been able to drive my car as there is no way to defog the windows or de-ice the glass. Somebody said to try using WD40 on the glass. I did and it would work.... twice. After 2 journeys, I am back to fog and ice. Someone else said use shaving foam on the glass and I did. It worked...

Finland, chilly one day, frozen the next.

I learned 13 years ago when I moved from Australia to Finland that blue skies mean different things in different countries. In Australia, a blue sky meant it was much warmer outdoors so you could wear less layers and enjoy the sunny breeze or even go for a swim. But here in Finland, if there is...

What do you do for living?

As an author I could suggest... have you considered writing? With the pandemic, you would not need to come into other people unnecessarily. It is a rewarding career and you can either publish for sales or donate books to your local library in paper or digital format

    Tinnitus is driving me crazy

I also wear ear plugs since Koronavirus hit. They all say in news protect eyes, nose, mouth, wash hands, wear mask, face shield, gloves etc but no mention of ears. To me, common sense says also protect ya ears and brain so also why i wear ear plugs. Always tinnitus gets worse seconds after...

What Are Jobs Deaf People Can't Do?

I wish I could say yes, but I very much doubt it. I once watched KELA tear up a letter from World Federation for the Deaf (WFD) right in front of me as KELA would not allow me use of an interpreter in official conversations such as medical or legal meetings.

    Tinnitus is driving me crazy

Tinnitis has been a problem for me for a long time. Maybe 25 years. Got much worse when I became full Deaf. For me, only thing that little bit helps is ear plugs. I don't know why. Audiologist doesnt know why. But it works for me. It doesnt make the screaming and whistling fully go away but it...

What Are Jobs Deaf People Can't Do?

Well in Finland, continuing my career as a Veterinary Nurse was put to a stop very quickly. I worked in Australia for many years in legal and then in veterinary nursing. After an assault, hearing is now completely gone. I was at school here in Finland (learning Finnish) and then came the...

    What if......

I have more face masks than my cats have hairs on their body. Bur if the population of Earth is vanquished by the virus, there will be no survivors - not even those of us covered in shed cat pubes.

    Deaf and ......

I live in Finland and wish you best of luck with your search. I learned a very long time ago that reaching out and making friends with hearing strangers is a very dangerous thing to do. I have been assaulted a few times by drunk men who assume I am ignoring them (there are too many bars next...

Question for girls.. would you ever date an ARAB guy?

Well "arab" would be properly used as "Arabic" just as you wouldn't say "china guy", you would say "Chinese guy". I have never dated an Arabic man. I don't know about their culture or religion or anything else. I live in Finland. I speak with ASL. I am Deaf. No matter who you choose to...
