Still Thinking You're Having a Bad Day?....

Fun, but fake story Although the story above is fun to read, it's not true. The Snopes website has a run-down on this and other similar "bad day" stories: http://www.snopes.com/humor/lists/fakenews.asp

    Students Looking for ASL buddies

Looking for Fingerspelling partners Hi, I'm taking ASL III and a Fingerspelling class. My old brain is having trouble with the fingerspelling part which is quite quick now, and I was hoping to find people who would like to trade Glide finger-spelled messages back and forth to improve. For...

The penalty for texting and driving in your state

Agreed. In fact, counties where the penalty are so low act as an encouragement for people to violate the rule: After all, if I get caught, I only have to pay $20. It's almost like a tax. Raise it to the equivalent of DUI penalties and people will think twice. In terms of it's danger, studies...

Pointing to dominant hand with non-dominant hand

Unfortunately, the only examples I can find are from online classes where the prof is fingerspelling, e.g., "ASL". I do recall it being done in a number of YouTube videos, but I can't seem to find them now. I'll try to find an example.

Pointing to dominant hand with non-dominant hand

I'm just curious why it's used. I'm learning ASL and if it's a technique that I should employ, I'd like to. But, if I don't know what it's purpose is, obviously I can't. I was thinking it might be for emphasis, or to relate to a particular style of ASL (more formal perhaps), or to a certain...

Pointing to dominant hand with non-dominant hand

Hi, I'm trying to understand why some signers use their non-dominant hand to point to their dominant hand for some signs. I've asked a few people who I've seen do it in person, but they didn't really notice it, or why. Is it for emphasis? Some seem to do it just when fingerspelling, but...

Help finding an ASL video "pen-pal" for my signing daughter

Thanks for suggestions Thanks for the ideas. We have been going to ASL night at a local coffee shop and she's met a few older kids there; that is a lot of fun. I hadn't thought about looking into a deaf club for teenagers - I'll ask at the Deaf Community Services.

Help finding an ASL video "pen-pal" for my signing daughter

To clarify...I was hoping for an address of the parent! Sorry if the message was confusing - I intended to get the email of a parent so that we could work something out, then let the kids meet. I certainly wouldn't let my child contact people online herself, and I would hope that others...

Help finding an ASL video "pen-pal" for my signing daughter

Hi, I'm trying to find an ASL video pen-pal for my 14-year old daughter (she's bored signing with me!). She's taken the first ASL course and goes to a weekly ASL meet-up and can hold/follow conversations. Are there ways to do this safely, either through this site or another? If you have...
